now that I've heard @BlitzenTart spit the word BUSSY to prove us Northerns the winner of this debate I feel like Christmas is COMPLETE. also slightly aroused.

THAT IS AN ALLY. :disco:
I’d seen people use the word bussy on here before but it’s only in this thread that I’ve come to understand what it means :D

I tend to call mine a ‘binge’.

Well this is all enlightening. Hulme is pronounced nothing like I thought it would be. @IguanMoreSleep pronounced all 4 words as close to how do of any of you. @BlitzenTart's is interesting because it does sound like you're saying pussy and fussy differently, even though you said you wouldn't be?

That’s interesting, they sound exactly the same to my ears.

also, it never occurred to me that people would know how to pronounce ‘Hulme’.

How would you southern lot pronounce the following Boltonian places and institutions?
Westhoughton
The Haulgh
Greenalgh’s

Tried my best

the absolute pig's dinner you make of Westhoughton :D to be fair I'm northern and I can't say that one EITHER. and in this case there ARE points for trying

It can only be a matter of time before the Scottish Moopers start asking us to pronounce Strathaven.

An American once asked me if "this is the train to harrogate".

"Is this the train to HAARR ODGE AAA TAYY"

No. It's not.

I mean why would you go to HARROGATE in the first place? OVERRATED.

one of the things that grinds my tits something chronic is Americans over-pronouncing the "gate" of Harrogate or the "bury" of Glastonbury or the "ham" of Buckingham.

BUCKING-HAM PALACE.
GLASTON-BERRY.
HARROW-GATE.
EDIN-BERRRG.

No honey. like all civilised human beings we pronounce as few letters as possible. stop being so enthusiastic.
