ROLL UP ROLL UP (again)

Now we're just back to me as your benevolent leader, we need some additional blood to run this, in case i get hit by a bus or a gay teacup.

What does one do?

An ADMINISTRATOR is broadly the gatekeeper to Moopy, who holds the keys. Amongst other things, they can:
  • Turn Moopy on/off
  • Install forum upgrades
  • Talk to the server hosts, fix issues like downtime
  • Change the structure of the forums, colour schemes, add new forums, change banners
  • Access the backing database and root forum code
  • +all the stuff a moderator can do
Anyone can be administrator. Technical knowledge is useful, but absolutely not essential.

Do YOU have what it takes to be admin? If so, please post your manifesto in here. Applicants have until 23.59pm on Saturday, 9th of January to apply.

We are looking to fill ONE position. If this is more than one candidate I will run a vote. If there is only one candidate I will run a vote of confidence whereby the candidate must achieve at least 50% confidence to take the post.

DO IT. It's not like there's a curse against whomever is admin alongside me, or anything.

I presume that in the event that Zen (or any other mod) wins, we have a mod by-election?

I mean I’m sure we’d be fine with 958 mods rather than 959 but still.

I guess that's up to the crowd. I'm not bothered either way on that one, but we certainly need another admin.

It is true that the admin position is definitely not cursed. @Mugatu was devoured by scarab beetles for entirely unrelated reasons.

I was thinking of half-arsedly standing if no-one good did, but I am sure Zen will do a splendid job so I won't.

You should still do it.

That's a shame about Octysmas or whatever the festive variant is. If I knew a The Fall song about changing ones mind I'd post it, so I'll turn to Auntie Kylie instead.

I have to say after the year we've had on here, for me the KEY point for being admin is actually someone level headed who can deal with human/ poster issues calmly and fairly. Indie has an incredible ability to deal with people in such a way that is just amazing to see.

An admin MUST be rational in their thoughts when it comes to the emotive matters on here and not get caught up in the outbreaks of petty Moopy civil wars.

You should stand!

I'd also like to see @BlitzenTart stand too, he's been on the mod team a while now and I always find him to really try and solve situations by seeing both sides of the story.

Mark E Smith never changed his mind. Even when he did, he didn't.

I would second both, but only if either or both are up for it.

I always find the non-endorsements by omission more interesting than the endorsements whenever this comes around :D

I think anybody mentioned so far would do a great job, but I'll also throw my hat in the ring.

I'm pretty sure I'm actually Moopy's longest serving non-admin mod (not that that should automatically count for anything), and I hope most people would agree that in terms of the moderating work I do I've always tried to be fair, balanced and non-invasive.

I've talked down my tech skills in past Admin discussions, but while I'm not a natural coder I do work with Content Management Systems a lot in my day job so I'm sure I could muddle through.

Given how disappointed a lot of people were over the result of the last run-off though*, I do think it might be worth re-opening the discussion, or at least the possibility, of expanding to a three-admin team?

*in terms of ZenGiraffe not getting enough support, not anybody who actually won!

I think this should definitely have discussion again, and be a seperate, defined vote as well, rather than combined with another vote. It seemed that there was appetite for a third admin last time, but the voting system obscured it.

Yes, that absolutely needs to be a separate discussion before the vote.

I have to say it would be nice to see Zen's ACTUAL FACE sometime if he's going to be our overlord!
