Lana Del Rey - ULTRAVIOLENCE sync listen

Oh forgot about the middle eight - fuck the critics :disco:

You never liked the way I said it
If you don't get it
Then forget it
Cause I don't have to fucking explain it

OK kicking UP another gear with West Coast. I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH!

I remember living in Switzerland when it came out in the summer of '14, just wandering around the countryside walking the dog and vibing to this song in the sun. I still think the moment when it slows down into the chorus is just... all kinds of genius. and then the very casual increase in tempo at the end of it, and that DRUM MACHINE carrying us into the next verse. ugh. great stuff.

I think originally produced by Rick Nowels (his version essentially being the "Radio mix" that's tagged onto the end here) and then totally redone by Dan Auerbach cos she felt the original was too straightforward or something.

great decision. they turned into this hazy psychedelic early 70s FESTIVAL ANTHEM that just wreaks of a never ending acid trip. but then it does end, and Jark is sad.

I love how simultaneously nonchalant and electrifying "West Coast" is

His parliament's on fire
And his hands ARE UP
On the balcony and I'm singing
Ooh baby, ooh baby I'M IN LOVE

being a BAD BITCH on the SIDE
might not appeal
to FOOLS like you...
creepin' around... while he gets high...
might not be somethin' YOU would do...

there's a lot of HOSTILE JUDGMENT in these songs toward the NON-EMOTIONALLY FUCKED UP women of this world who don't want to be somebody's WHISKY FUELLED PROZZY :D

and I LOVE IT!

Sad Girl is obviously incredible. long-time fave. it's like the ORIGINAL THESIS on the character of Lana Del Rey.

'Sad Girl' gets bad rap I feel but I've always loved it. Okay, so the lyrics are a bit Lana-by-numbers but the vocals and delivery are for the ages.

OK Pretty When You Cry is a dirge. there's really not much to this song, and none of it is interesting. a total autopilot moment - should've been replaced by Black Beauty.

Don't come through, babe
You never do
:(

"Pretty When You Cry" was never a favorite per se, but it feels a bit more intimate/raw than some of the other tracks.

"Pretty When You Cry" is definitely the weakest link but I still enjoy it. Her vocal delivery is beautiful and I like the sparse arrangement. Lyrically a bit weak.
