How is 5 miles not WITHIN your local area? I guess two middle aged women in the middle of no where are an easier target than 8 kids in a town centre, it's pathetic.
 
All the shops that were open for CLICK & COLLECT are STILL OPEN. But sure, fine the ladies going out for a walk.

My old queen doc is happy to dish out sleeping pills like they are going out of fashion, but a certificate for the gym was clearly a breach of medical ethics. And you stupid bitch; if your friend can get one, je suis preneuse.

According to BBC News, public bodies will legally be able to stop delivering some everyday services so that staff and resources can be focused on the Covid effort.

I guess that means hospital appointments and operations etc could be cancelled for starters.

The Zoe symptom study appears to be showing that new cases are reducing, but it'll take a while for that to relieve hospital pressure.

Yes and from next week you have to produce a PCR test from 72 hours before the flight showing you are negative for coronavirus.

You can also cut down the 10 day self-isolation to I believe 7 if you then take ANOTHER test after the fifth day in isolation.
 
Safe to say, they don't have resources to monitor this at all. So a lot of people ignore it (the self-isolation bit, you will need the PCR test at boarding stage when you fly back to the UK).
 
Every single lateral flow test I’ve carried out at school this week has come back negative. Even the ones I just sprayed with water and other random liquids didn’t come back invalid. :confused:

Interesting thank you. I'm sure my neighbours are due back today from Xmas holidays, I bet they'll be at work on Monday!

As far as I can tell a negative reading from a PCR test is absolutly pointless as it proves nothing. However they still have some value as they will pick up a few positives that may have been otherwise undetected.

There needs to be some education that "not testing positive" isn't the same as "testing negative".

The situation is already past that in London in many of the major hospitals.

The frustrating thing is the government don't actually know the scale of the problem. The way they collect data on bed occupancy is fundamentally flawed in that it's based on percentages rather than actual numbers.

So, if your ITU capacity is normally 20 beds, and you create an additional 10 beds in another ward (thus moving or cancelling another service) - which is what many hospitals have done - your ITU capacity is actually 150% and beyond what you are staffed/funded to provide. But the daily reports that the government use to assess service demand are capped in crude mathematical terms at 100%.

Any figure spouted by the government at the moment is only proportional to the number of *actual* ITU beds that are funded in England. They don't reflect the true scale of the problem and, I think, is why there is this conspiracy about it being normal for this time of year. Hospitals normally do reach close to capacity, but figures of >100% for ITU occupancy on a protracted, national scale are unprecedented. Unless the government change the way they collect data (which they won't), the figures won't reflect reality and why so many staff are tearing their hair out.

Yes the BBC report from a London ICU was awful the other night. Made me think about all the moaning I’ve been doing.
 
Friend of mine works in an eye dept at a North London hospital, he said overnight they changed the eye dept and waiting area into a covid ward as they just have no space.
 
Hubby read this morning that they’re running out of pipes to bring in enough oxygen for patients

That's how so many places are functioning at the moment. And because the waiting room - if not the whole department - is (presumably) not intended to have inpatient beds, to the government, it will remain invisible. They may, therefore, also expect it to be running as usual, which puts a lot of pressure on people like your friend who have had their service completely disrupted.
 
Are these high figures of deaths now from Christmas Day or is that yet to come?
 
Two weeks to get seriously ill and dying two weeks after that has been the rule of thumb I believe, so it should be starting soonish.

That is rather terrifying if the death figures are still likely to rise significantly. People getting admitted to hospital around this time will be from Christmas, but the New Year figures are likely still yet to come next week.
 
I am quite thankful that I am in a different country from the majority of my family as I think I may well have been in the “fuck it, it’s Christmas” mentality and spent the festive season with my loved ones.
