Quite liking some of the news today. Some very strong (albeit "not yet published") indication that vaccines are indeed reducing transmission considerably, 100% prevention of hospitalisation, and AZ already working on generation 2 of the vaccine to better cover variants for Autumn.

Makes a nice breath of fresh air after all the "we've found yet another variant that Scientists Are Very Concerned about" headlines.
 
I don’t know. I imagine anyone who caught it over Christmas may have first had symptoms in the first 2 weeks of January, and any major spiral downhill may not have been immediate.

Have the government ever clarified why they’re only recording people dying within 28 days of a positive test? What if they hold on for a few days longer?

They haven't clarified it, but when they first made the change it knocked 5000 off the cumulative deaths total, so I think we can probably guess.
 
Isn't it consistent with what other countries record? I feel like I vaguely remember that we were counting a longer period than other countries initially

I read that. That's a historic population shift I certainly didn't predict.

its also because of Brexit. But it goes to show how reliant London is on hospitality and entertainment. There really is no need to be there if you can work elsewhere and save a fortune.

I’ve heard rent values have plummeted as well which is a good thing.

As if some member of the cabinet won’t be on morning TV the day they open telling everyone all the loopholes and how to BEND THE RULES!
 
Yes the time scales do seem quite reasonable at the moment however we are only a day or two into the narrative inevitably switching to “when are we opening?” “Can I hug my nan yet?” “Open Now Now now!” once the graphs take the tiniest tick downwards.

Boris has already moved his roadmap announcement forward a week because every day there’s a vacuum with no news, the calls to open will get more pronounced with no reasoning or evidence.
 
Yeah it seemed horrific when deaths went over 1000 a day, now they’ve JUST dipped below that and people seem to think we’re in a GREAT POSITION :eyes:
 
I'm super sick of lockdown. My life is paused and uneventful. That said let's not even touch the rules until March at the VERY FUCKING LEAST.
 
Our numbers "our numbers are dropping" are dropping - which is great. But vaccinations here aren't going as quickly as we had hoped, I'd say. At the current rate, I'm not expecting my first jab before May. And I can tell how bored I am with my flat and home office life. I just hope we'll have a gorgeous March and April, so I can do some hiking in the mountains and stuff. But I'm healthy, so I shouldn't complain. But still.
 
Zero interest in pubs without pints. Whats the fucking point. Just bail them out and hold tight.
 
I think it's easier for the government to delay opening things now that the vaccine programme is going well. They can see a scenario where the UK economy can build confidence while other countries' economies are still suffering, so they may make a decision to take some pain now to reap the rewards in a few months' time

for me it’s the mentality of when things open, it must be safe. People can’t seem to connect the idea of opening up for the economy and the need to STILL be cautious, not to all starting queueing round the block to get into Primark and booking pub dinners every night.

It shouldn’t be a free for all but it always is, so for that reason I’m happy for things to stay closed for longer.

I’m thankful for some of my parent friends. I remember one wrapping up a carrot for her child’s first Christmas with the reasoning of “whatever I give her she’s going to put it in her mouth and won’t remember it, so it might as well be a vegetable” :D
 
My poor little Dannii will be 3 before she has her first birthday party! Last year was cancelled and I don't expect much will be allowed by April this year.
