As per RuPaul's "Disco-mentary" episode, post your DEFINITIVE Top 5 Disco songs of all time.

No Ties, No 'Bubbling Under'. Just 5 songs. These songs will be engraved on your fucking tombstone.

BUT:

1. Rasputin- Boney M
2. Doctor Love- First Choice
3. Do You Wanna Funk?- Sylvester
4. Love Hangover- Diana Ross
5. Giving Up, Giving In- Three Degrees

:D

what is Jump if not disco? it's just at the poppier end of the spectrum

Donna Summer - I Feel Love
Rose Royce - Is it love you're after
Jean Carne - Was that all it was
Loose change - Love is just a heartbeat away
Sylvester - I (who have nothing)

I (Who Have Nothing) is fucking TREMENDOUS.

I WHO ADOOOOOOORE YOU!

The ridiculous thing about "Jump" is that it's an OBVIOUS 10/10 but it's actually only the FIFTH best song from that album...

if I can't have Jump, I'll swap in either You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) or Chain Reaction.

then again, Young Hearts Run Free...

oh it's IMPOSSIBLE!

"Chain Reaction"- also BLATANTLY not disco!

OH YOU KIDS :D

Off the top of my head, 'Atomic' by Blondie, 'I Feel Love' and 'Our Love' by Donna Summer, 'Xanadu' from the original major motion picture soundtrack of Xanadu, and 'Your Disco Needs You' by Kylie.

I'm aware that many of these, perhaps all, were not grown in the disceaux region of France. Don't @ me :(

:D

I have flexible definitions!

Chain Reaction is also pure pop, but its influence is 60s Motown...it's fuck all to do with disco, love, bar the singer herself, that is...

See, I wouldn't count Your Disco Needs You (or else it would be top 5 for me), but it's QUITE acceptable here. It IS disco.

OUR LOVE is magnificent and, remember, what Blue Monday ripped off WHOLESALE.

Boney M - Rasputin
Candi Staton - Young hearts run free
Cher - Take me home
Cheryl Lynn - Got to be real
Donna Summer - Could it be magic

that started as a top 10 you BEAST

FUCK KC, post as MANY AS YOU LIKE.

FREE THE DISCO

Earth Wind and Fire - Boogie Wonderland

Madleen Kane - Rough Diamond

My other top 5
Diana Ross - The Boss
Odyssey - Native New Yorker

23 posts in and it's already a gay nuclear meltdown.

PIN THREAD PLZ

I'm not an expert in disco, but I have dabbled over the years. I could probably do at least 50 more, full of tracks that disco purists would sneer at.

I TOTALLY forgot Relight My Fire. That's probably top three :disco:

I don’t know how you ever thought this would fly, if you said Top 5 Posh Spice you’d get top 10s with bubbling unders, and “I don’t like the cow but I’m here anyway” posting a top 2

so try that with a whole genre :D

probably the Lulu stink put you off

I must say that as a child of late 90s pop, listening to these disco standards only NOW, I can’t imagine the pain of the disco cover era by Take That etc

I’m conscious that a lot of mine were Lip Syncs, I’d say the split of ones I knew before and not are 50/50

Without giving it any real thought then:

Donna Summer - Last Dance
Amii Stewart - Knock On Wood
Carrie Lucas - Dance With You
Emotions - Best Of My Love
Loleatta Hartman - Love Sensation

I was once forced to endure Take That and Lulu performing Relight my Fire during a shift.

And that's why you join a UNION kids.

I’d thrown in these along with some already mentioned:

Don’t Leave Me This Way - Thelma Houston
Got To Be Real - Cheryl Lynn
A Night To Remember - Shalamar
Knock On Wood - Amii Stewart
Yes Sir I Can Boogie - Baccara

Take That's Relight My Fire was actually my first introduction to it and I didn't hate it. But then I bought a disco compilation with the original on and LOST MY LIVING SHIT. The 12" version with VERTIGO segueing into it is one of the best ten minutes you can EVER SPEND. When the beat drops out and Relight My Fire kicks in...oh MAN!

I discovered this fabulous track thanks to Moopy and it's now one of my all time favourite disco songs. I also made a video for it and it's played from time to time in a very fancy pub.
