Lorde - Pure Heroine/Melodrama Sync Listen

I've always thought of Tennis Court and Team as being kind of a pair (I can't explain why), and Yellow Flicker Beat goes with them as well

I can understand that. I'm listening to 400 Lux and thinking, are all the songs gonna be either sisters of Royals or Tennis Court?! :disco:
 
Actually @Beverley this kind of reminds me of the first Nelly Furtado album. Not sonically, but that it is a very individual album from a teenage girl, with a strong point of view
 
400 Lux is one of my favorites (and Jark's apparently)

3. Royals

This was of course the big hit, but it is almost separate from the rest for me. I like it but when I want to listen to Lorde, I never think of it

The reference was for YOU. I'll have to think about what the message is. I don't really know this album nearly as well as Melodrama
 
This may or may not make sense, and it is not my thesis on the album.

When I was a teenager, not that long ago, I was aware of the wider world/politics, but it didn't seem so all-encompassing as it does now. This is a bit US specific, but the Sandy Hook massacre (which happened my last year of high school) was a changing point where it felt like teenagers could no longer avoid the larger world. Today's teenagers seem to have to grow up so fast and are so aware of social issues (which is a good and bad thing). Lorde's worldview relates more to that kind of world (to me). I kind of see her as the start of Gen Z
