I have never used tarragon or dill, where do you use them? Stews? Meat?

God I love a shelf full of spices even when I know I'm never gonna use half of them :bruised:

Some of them are QUITE OLD.
Yes, I bet a lot of mine are considerably out of date. Herbs I manage to use and replace, but apart from paprika and sumac, I bet most of my spices are used once or twice and then thrown away about 4 years later.

Do you use saffron over there? It is an essential for rice here, quite expensive.

You can use dill to make your own pickles too. I’ve never actually done this, but I want to

Make your own pickles? God we have such a different diet. I feel fascinated by some of the stuff you eat, in a good way, I love trying different things. Excepts crisps, sorry.

Do you mean me or people on moopy in general?

Isn't this another US/English confusion? Do you mean

?

I think we're talking about dill the herb

I don’t have any, but yes we do. It tends to be for colour more than anything else though and I find the much cheaper turmeric does the same job!

Do Spaniards not eat pickles? It can’t be that exotic.

Dill pickles are just pickled gherkins with dill added to the vinegar, right? (yuck, what a waste :()

No I’m talking about the herb too. Putting it in the brine with the cucumbers to make the pickles.
Not that I’ve ever actually done this

So when you say 'dill pickles', does the 'dill' just refer to the herb, and the pickle is a more generic term for what is pickled?

This is what I buy. But I wouldn’t call the pickles dills. The dill is the seasoning

I have never bought SUMAC! What do you use it for?

The pickle is a pickled cucumber and the dill is the flavor of it

I’m really not describing it well but I think it’s the same as what you’re saying

That's what confuses me - because I pickle just about anything.
Ok I see the confusion. I would pickle anything (pickled radish, picked asparagus, whatever) but the word “pickle” is usually used for pickled cucumbers

In general. I had pickle onions for the first time 3 years ago or so, just because I like to try different things. I know they're extremely common in UK, but I've never seen anyone in my family buying them. And same with many other things here. Oh but I discovered banana loaf thanks to Moopy and I've made it a few times already, so good!

I have an Iranian friend who introduced me to it a few years ago. She told me she uses it pretty much in any way you'd use lemon as a flavour enhancer. I usually stir it into plain hummus, or into labneh with mint it's delicious.
