Weather looks SHIT, but I suppose it will be good to see what life in a coastal town is like when it isn't warm and sunny, before we make a decision to move down there.

Ugh, I wouldn't call it LIVING

No, it will probably be south Devon, likely somewhere reasonably close to Exeter. Teignmouth is looking like a distinct possibility, but I'd like to look at a few other places first - particularly Exmouth.

Realistically it's not going to be for a few years, we're both the sort of people who will need time to plan and process such a move.

Ah I see. Devon..I LOVE Devon, although generally North Devon is my preference over south.

I’m en route to the tropical NORTH YORKSHIRE coast, which my parents are insisting is ‘QUITE SUNNY’.

We did the north coast a lot more when I was young - we went to Croyde every year until I was about 15 or so, so know the coast well, particularly Ilfracombe, Woolacombe (my favourite), Saunton Sands, Clovelly and Westward Ho!

But the north coast is a lot more remote if you don't drive. And I also want to be within easy reach of a city, which means Exeter or Plymouth. And Plymouth is a bit too Plymouthy.

I LOVE Clovelly! But yes if is very remote.

I'd absolutely say go for the move. Living by the sea and in a tourist destination is totally different to a city. But be prepared for it to die in the winter.

We're hopefully going to Ilfracombe in January for 2 weeks. It was that it a cruise to the canaries. I forget why Devon won.

Oh used to pop down to Exmouth quite a bit when I was at Uni. Along the Estuary is really lovely used to love that walk. There’s Lympstone and Topsham (with a CHEESE SHOP) both on the train line too but i’d imagine they are ridiculously expensive

I used to love living on the coast in winter. Walking the dog down to the beach with huge waves and being the only ones there.

For the most part, it was nice 'out of season' and having the place back to ourselves, but the only problem was the local life got really quiet in Jan/Feb - probably not the same sort of problem in the UK though.
