All those "Did they really just rhyme DANCER with CANCER?" moments

A couple of old hip-hop ones that I always enjoy to start you off

Satisfaction, I have the right tactics
And if you need 'em, I got crazy prophylactics
(A Tribe Called Quest - Bonita Applebum)

I'm expressing with my full capabilities
And now I'm living in correctional facilities
(NWA - Express Yourself)

I'm called to mind of Lauryn Hill's cameo in the recent Nas collab "Nobody", one of the best hip-hop tracks this year

Full of great lines but these couplets stand out

Now let me give it to you balanced and with clarity
I don't need to turn myself into a parody
I don't I don't do the shit you do for popularity
They clearly didn't understand when I said "I Get Out" apparently
My awareness like Keanu in The Matrix
I'm savin' souls and y'all complainin' 'bout my lateness

She gives NO fucks :D

This always stood out for me

Sister killed her baby 'cuz she couldn't afford to feed it
And we're sending people to the moon
In September my cousin tried reefer for the very first time
Now he's doing horse, it's June

Prince - Sign O The Times

Just so quirky in its structure and, yet, so powerful

Ok I was taking the piss a bit with the Menly one (it was legit the first one that came to mind though)

Unironically though, all of Life by Des’ree, what a slice of joy
Of course. Rhyming "ghost" with "toast" is the pinnacle of ART

The classic: Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again.

Promises me I'm safe as houses
As long as I remember who's wearing the trousers

Made all the funnier by Martin Gore's keening backing vocals.

Chris DeBurgh rhyming “Dance” with “Romance”, which is fine ONLY if putting on the obligatory US pronunciation.

You may be disinclined to find the love you left behind
So kiss me and make up your mind, I’m not the loving kind

New Order a few snicker-worthy couplets too.

Every second counts
When I am with you
I think you are a pig
You should be in a zoo

I mean, yr man Sumner actually giggles a bit.

Apart from possibly laudanum, not sure what was going through Bowie's mind when he scratched out this one:

Andy walking, Andy tired
Andy take a little snooze
Tie him up when he's fast asleep
Send him on a pleasant cruise

I'll post a couple of serious ones...

Bo Burnham's "That Funny Feeling" has several great rhymes, my favourite being this darkly comic couplet:

Reading Pornhub's terms of service, going for a drive
And obeying all the traffic laws in Grand Theft Auto Five

This verse from Julian Cope's "An Elegant Chaos" is as poignant as it is silly.

People I see
Just remind me of mooing
Like a cow on the grass
And that's not to say
That there's anything wrong
With being a cow anyway
But people are people
With the added advantage
Of the spoken word
We're getting on fine
But I feel more of a man
When I get with the herd

A little classic Marina...

Drinking champagne, a bottle to myself
Savour the taste of fabricated wealth

Mark E Smith was often not bothered by things having to rhyme but I always enjoyed this:

So I'm resigned to bed
I keep bottles and comics stuffed by its head
Fuck it, let the beard grow
I'm too tired, I'll do it tomorrow

I really could just post the whole of Hamilton, especially My Shot and the Cabinet Battles.

madonna look it up GIF

You are my cup of tea and I'll drink you very slowly
You are the church of love and suddenly I'm feeling holy

And

You're the plug and I'm the socket
I'm the moon and you're the rocket
You can sing it you can talk it
You're the change in my back pocket

Both from Just Like You by Voice Of The Beehive have always got me.

I chicken out and send a picture of my face instead
Because my dick looks like the baby from Eraserhead
