Hold the door was such a chilling moment because it’s like a piece of puzzle getting solved that wasn’t in the books.

You've read the books? Did you read them before watching the series?

I haven't (although my brother keeps recommending reading them) but still it it was a revealing moment for me.
 
Before, I think I first heard of them when the show went into production and finished them a few months before the premier (well the ones that were out anyway).

Did the show match your expectations based on the books or were there some characters/actors or events you thought of that weren't right?
 
I mean it’s an adaptation so sure there were changes and moments that I missed (mostly zombie Cat) but I think they did a good job of adapting the books and even were able to pull off some moments later on.

It’s just a shame that they so rushed the end, focused so much on scale and screwed the climax. But then again it’s not like George has been able to finish his books.

One of the adaptations that didn’t work for me was Shae, in the books she’s just a silly side character who likes Tyrion as his whore but that’s the extent. So her betrayal actually makes sense. In the show Shae is a much stronger character who’s so in love with Tyrion that her final betrayal didn’t add up and thus that big moment in the end of the season fell flat for me.
 
The best moment of the series is the entire opening 15 minutes of The Winds Of Winter, mostly known as The Light of the Seven because of the score that dominates it

Definitely one of the best sequences ever on television

Battle of The Bastards would be second
Then Hardhome

Also when Danaerys reveals that she can speak Valeryian and frees all the slaves. Total QOL moment
 
Other bad adaptations: Dorne (cool visuals and Indira Varma but terrible story telling most of it invented), Euron Greyjoy (again mostly invented and badly done).

I TOTALLY agree on the first one. Truly a masterpiece. And Cersei walking taking a dip of her wine before walking away really nails rhe scene. I've been going back to on youtube, but also listening to the song 'Light of the Seven', on itself.
 
Battle of the Bastards was great and intense, but the clear highlight was Littlefinger:s arrival. One of the best episodes, yes.
 
I see we have nothing of the Sand Snakes, who Cersei cruelly put a rest of, or Greyjoys, who always were supporting. Both of their most memorable moment was when Ellaria command Theon to come watch as ''Foreign invasion is on the way'. And she wasn't wrong. Right after the ship was attacked and they were both taken hostage

The Prince Oberyn one seems to be quite elusive, so I'm afraid you'll have to click on that one, sweeties.
 
Cersei's death was one of the most underwhelming parts of the whole thing. It should have been some massive dramatic revenge moment (like Littlefinger but 100x so) but instead it was away from her enemies in a cellar.
 
For me the Night King getting the dragon, and the moment its eye turned blue, was completely epic.
 
Also the whole 20 minutes leading up to Cersei blowing up the sept are incredible television. The music was phenomenal. I read it was the first piece on the show to use piano (as opposed to medieval instrumentation) which symbolised the world entering a new era.

from book memory: Little Finger shoving Lysa Arryn out the moon door and Tyrion shooting his father on the loo

particularly the last one had my jaw drop. ugh these books have so many highs
 
Hardholme and Sansa setting the hounds on Ramsey Bolton are two missing ones for me.

Ooh and the death of Joffrey. How I cheered.
 
God Cersei really should have WON THE WHOLE THING.

Lena Heady’s incredible acting in the Sept of Balor scene that is comprised entirely of walking around, drinking wine and looking smug. :disco:
 
It's odd because I think we can all agree that the show from Season 7 onwards was a mess, but in terms of moments, it served the hardest during that period.
 
Sansa’s entire series long arc from whimpering Princess to becoming literally the ONLY likeable character was quite something.
 
Watching this yesterday with all the bits from Season 6, it did make me think that it certainly did deliver on so many MOMENTS. And the majority in this clip are from the last 2 episodes :D

The problem is, post-Red Wedding, the show became increasingly fixated on the need to deliver those watercooler 'moments' with increasingly scant regard for plot or character consistency.
 
Yeah the :shock: moments and big battle set pieces were great when set amongst the the more complex character driven storylines and political intrigue, which it put on the back burner towards the end as it became one long blockbuster and nothing began to make ANY SENSE.
 
The final season was a bit like the last incarnation of the Sugababes. It made no sense; it betrayed the spirit of the original premise. But the bops.

I mean, Dany's rampage across King's Landing was quite something to behold.

Sorry but I couldn’t disagree more

You may feel that way but surely in the knowledge that you’re in a hard minority. For a show of this size and under such a vast microscope, the show did incredibly well to remain onside with almost its entire audience until the second half of Season 8.

It wasn’t perfect even before then, but to say it was only water cooler moments from seasons 4 to 8 , for 5 whole seasons, after delivering some of the best moments of television multiple times over, is a tad dismissive I reckon!
 
I never said that's all it was. I said it became increasingly fixated on those moments.

Season 8 was a complete disaster, but there was definitely a gradual decline in quality that led up to it, it didn't just randomly go to shit overnight.

I still enjoyed it, but I think most people would recognise that it had a downward trajectory.
