We're having a debate here. If Santa was a criminal (likely), which jurisdiction would his crimes be judged?

I said one of the Scandinavian countries. Mr Ag pointed that that Santa probably commits his crimes miles above land, all around the planet. If the NORAD Santa tracker is anything to go by, then it's normally Kazakhstan or Oman. Which if you think about it, are unlikely places for Santa to be, so you have to wonder.

I'd presume he's an international money launderer.

I MEAN IT STANDS TO REASON!

Apparently the UN says nobody owns the North Pole, but Canada claims to. So Canada would prosecute Santa

I bet Oman is where he goes to spend all his money. Not sure why though.

I imagine they'd just deport him and let Finland sort him out. Santa is Finnish, isn't he?

There’s such a thing as the Tokyo Convention, which governs crimes on board aircraft. His crimes would most likely be prosecuted by either the next country where he lands, the country that he was over at the time of the crimes or, if he was over international waters, the country where his sleigh is registered.

New question: if Santa is at a Downing Street party during lockdown, is he prosecuted by the British government or is it swept under the rug?

@dmlawst christmas specialises in Christmas Law so he knows these things. It's why I hired him when I captured all those dwarves I thought had escaped Santa's workshop except they turned out to be children.

This is the kind of info I was looking for. Very good Sir.

I take no pleasure in reporting him, but his disregard for air safety and indulgence in financial crime, really leave me with no other choice. He's ruined a lot of lives.

And by arguing that they had been naughty and that you had remembered to check your list twice, I got your sentence downgraded from ‘hanged by the neck until dead’ to ‘hanged by the neck until sorry’.

He would get a four point bump in the polls for being a ‘legend’.

Christmas Lawyer must be a uniquely seasonal job, like running a Calendar Club or being Noddy Holder.

If the Supreme Court had accepted my very persuasive argument for the plaintiff in the case of Wizzard v Lamp Genie, they would have become a great deal busier.
