Awww, that's a shame. "Smalltown Boy" and "Why?" weren't just huge hits, they were absolute watershed moments in pop and will be remembered as such. RIP.

I don't think the importance of Smalltown Boy can be overestimated in gay and pop culture, regardless of how much anyone may like it. That song absolutely changed lives.

Apparently he had a stroke three years ago, and according to his friend/carer, died of smoke inhalation following a fire at his Soho flat that he was unable to escape from
