A few strange noes from the opposition benches which I struggle to understand, unless it is people who can’t bear to vote with the government on anything (which is pathetic in itself, particularly in this context).

The main area of increase at the moment appears to be London. Very similar to this time last year, actually. Not sure what the means but the deaths are staying steady.

I basically just hope we avoid the January we had this year.

Where are you getting data from on "active" cases? That doesn't seem like it's a thing that could reliably be tracked.

The covid map that shows number of cases by region. The numbers have gone down vs last week in most places except London and Scotland

I mean it’s no different to what normally happens, the regions flip flopping all year long up and down, but it’s still happening despite the number of positive casss.

Is he/she rough with it? Science tells us that if you’ve had a virus (variant or otherwise) and a provenly effective vaccine, your symptoms will be much less. Otherwise what’s the point?

They could of course be an outlier. But omicron is really fucking up the process isn’t it!
 
There have been other "worrying" variants that haven't caused even a fraction as much of a stir at government level - I'm rather concerned that governments possibly know something more than we do
 
Wow I’m hearing about so many people having it now, I don’t know whether it’s a regional thing but this is way bigger than it’s ever been. Luckily most people just getting a bad bug. And it’s mostly people my age and younger.

Ah ok, I misread your point.

Cases are something like 10% week on week nationally. That's an increase but not massive, and therefore regional variations are not exactly unlikely.
 
Apparently my brother and his wife had it about 6 weeks ago. She just lost her sense of smell and he had no symptoms, even though he is clinically vulnerable. Apart from that I don’t know of anyone who has had it for months.
 
I don't know anyone who has caught it in recent times. Well, aside from children and one wife I've never met of work colleagues.

Literally nobody in my closest friends group has ever caught it, despite several working front line NHS.
 
I've had quite a few friends and colleagues succumb to it, quite a few who are front line NHS. Of the ones I know well though, nobody has got it from that setting - it's been from children or partners.

My boss also was triple jabbed and got Covid last year/then again this past week. How does your colleague know they got Omicron versus Ms. Delta??
 
We've had loads at work over the whole period. In this last week we've had two more cases. One more and we have to close to deep clean

I can't talk for Suedey's colleague but I've read that if you do a PCR test in the UK, the results come back telling you if it's Omicron as the testers can identify it when running the lab results

I know there was some talk of withholding support to try and force the government to increase statutory sick pay to a decent level.

Probably also some general crankery in there too :D
 
I’m really concerned about getting it before Christmas now. I know I had it relatively recently but I’m not sure how much that really matters with Omicron and my booster won’t have kicked in yet.

I’m doing all I can to limit social contacts, public transport and all the rest of it between now and then, but my flatmate (who hasn’t had Covid yet except maybe the original strain way at the start) is going out almost every night, including some Christmas parties that are still going ahead.

I have asked that we both test every day but I feel it would be unreasonable to ask for any more even though I’m not thrilled about the situation.
 
seeing how the cases really seem to be showing signs of acceleration now it definitely seems "shit or bust" to me. Either it's mild and it's good news as it means we can start to coexist with it, or it's not and it's another lockdown around the corner, the length determined by how quickly everyone gets their boosters and how effective they really are.

Not that I personally want Christmas shut down, I find it so bizarre that we would lock down after the damage has been done. It’s such bizarre strategy. Not to mention the fact that we now have previous waves to learn from :confused:m

Im sure they’ll find some way to label this one ‘unprecedented’ as well…

This Omicron is vicious!

The previous forecasts were doubling every 3 days and scientists were worried about that. It's alreayd doubling every 2 days. Yikes.
