What actually happens now, do we think? Can we get a resignation TIMETABLE set up? I'm getting far too excited by the prospect of booting him out by Christmas :D

The Bennetts have been giving us conservative values since 1993, so I'm not shocked. I cannot unstan, because of the bops.
 
And I love that the Tories are still trying to play the Brexit card, and it's not working anymore. They "got Brexit done" after all, it's been a shitshow and now people are more concerned about not being governed by this corrupt, mendacious and out-of-touch regime.

I truly hope that all the opposition parties now recognise that there is only one zero sum game and that's KILL THE TORIES.

I'm letting myself believe the tide has turned on Brexit based solely on last night's Question Time, when the audience sat in absolute silence whenever one of the panel mentioned a 'benefit' of Brexit.

Also Lisa Nandy just laid waste to everyone and I'm now a bit in love with her.

There is a delicious irony in the fact that 'getting brexit done' so terribly will come back to haunt them and quite possibly be their undoing. I know that the general farming community is fucked right off with them, same with fishing and other industry, all of which were sold the brexit dream.
 
The thought of all the Tory MPs up and down the country shitting themselves right now is exquisite.

The thought of swathes of the southwest returning to a golden yellow hue feels me with much glee.
 
There's also the fact that virtually every democratic country is likely to see a blowback to their incumbent government as a protest against their handling of COVID. The Conservatives are stuck between a rock and a hard place. The rock being anti lockdown/anti vaxxers, and the hard place being the ever increasing pile of dead bodies.
 
I could 100% live with a Lab/Lib dem coalition, which is probably the only route to power either party has in the forseeable. I think in theory it could be a lot more functional than the Con/Lib coalition.

Fuck it, throw in the Greens as well. Enough of the Tories clinging to power by dividing and conquering. Progressive alliances are the future of the left wing whether the party leaders like it or not.

Well, yes. I am a huge fan of tactical voting and the left really need to stop weeping over their precious little vote and get onto it. A yellow seat is always better than a blue seat.

Labour would have to need an even BIGGER lead in an election than they do in the polls currently for a Lab/Lib + Caroline Lucas government to cross the 326 line (I think?)

I feel like a Lab/SNP is more likely on the assumption that IndyRef2 would be part of that.. unless the Lib Dems manage to win 25-30 seats.

I doubt the SNP would enter the UK government properly though, it would be a Labour(/Lib Dem) minority government with the SNP supporting them on votes as long as they get a referendum.

A SLIGHT concern for me is that as much as a disaster this fortnight has been for the Tories, with Christmas and New Year looming they might be inclined to try and SWEEP IT ALL UNDER THE CARPET and hope everybody forgets about it come 2022 - a strategy they've relied on before with some success.

Lisa Nandy was absolutely brilliant last night. You can see why Labour are so keen to push her front and centre. She was the only one that connected with the audience.
 
Bizarre choice by the Tories to send that weasel Chris Philp to represent them at QT.

And the awful Oliver Dowden was so irritating on R4 this morning.

it's been their entire government strategy since they took power about 12 years ago. I never know whether to be more shocked that they have the arrogance to do it, or the fact that it always works.

Why would Labour ever do that though? SNP getting and winning another referendum would be curtains for Labour and any left wing government in the rest of the UK until they all form a unified party.

I mean I agree it's the simplest way to guarantee a coalition win, but it's a short term solution that has long term disastrous consequences. If I was a Tory I'd be actively WANTING this to happen.

I'd love a left wing coalition with Labour and LD, but I'd want the Greens in there too. It would illustrate an awful lot of solidarity and remind the gammon community that there's still a lot of progressive people in this country who want things to be better for all, not just for them.

If the numbers allowed, the SNP would bring down any government that didn't give them an independence referendum. On current polling, to reach a majority in the house, it will require SNP support.

To be fair, if I was UK Labour, I wouldn't specifically grant a referendum to the SNP. I would just explicitly devolve the power to hold referendums to the Scottish and Welsh Parliaments (It is argued that they have this power already, but it would currently end up in the courts) and adopt the line that "it is for the national parliament/electorate to decide if they have a referendum".

And as to the long term consequences for the English left without Scottish seats? TOO BAD
