Melodifestivalen 2022: Deltävling 1 - Avicii Arena

Show-wise, I agree with others that it felt really messy and a bit tired. The production overall just did not feel up to the usual standard, and I also think the venue really didn’t help. Something about the smaller setting and tiny audience (combined with Oscar Zia’s shaky presentation) made it feel like one of the decidedly lower budget and less polished national finals we’re used to from elsewhere. Even with zero audience last year, they still managed to convey MF’s big beast feeling! With so many other countries having a go at a NF and some excelling, MF is at risk of not being this year’s gold standard if things keep up like this.

Bless Oscar Zia and his incredibly trans facial hair. Do we reckon that it was mostly just down to the app meltdown or was he a bit out of his depth?

I'm not inclined to blame Oscar too much given how much clearly went wrong, but it does feel like he works better with somebody to bounce off.
 
I love how they just BINNED the new voting format because the app crashed! You’d have THOUGHT they’d have a back up plan :D
 
This is really going to be a Melfest heat that goes down in history for ALL THE WRONG REASONS :disco:
 
Oscar looked actively scared at several points throughout the night. He should be doing the backstage interviews and there should be a veteran doing the actual interviews. I don't blame him at all, I feel like he's been thrown to the wolves a bit.

I don’t see what else they could have done given the circumstances. The new voting presentation relies on the app working (bit foolish considering how many times it has crashed over the years).
 
We had the subtitles on for a bit and apparently it's "B A N A Nas". Still a terrible lyric though.
 
It's baffling that when there's such a wealth of professional TV hosts to choose from in Sweden, they give the biggest hosting gig of the year to a young popstar - on his own.

A lot of what happened last night obviously wasn't his fault, but how he coped with it just showed how out of his depth he was. And again, him being left to deal with it on his own wasn't his fault either.

I thought that giving popstars hosting jobs was just a Christer thing, as he's really a bit of a fanboy at heart. But even he knew to pair them up with someone professional. This was a surprisingly terrible decision from Karin - what a way to make your mark in your first week of being in charge.
 
...I think it's finally time to take Ace Wilder out if things like this are going to keep happening. I know it's difficult to kill a Lich, but for the good of the world I think we have to try.

So pleased that Cornelia went DTF. The song was way above everything else. The performance could obviously use a little polish, even though they were going for a rough, loose feel it didn't completely come off. My favourite shot involving Cornelia was of her brown slippers just sat on the stage while she rolled around :D

Robin was feeling the panic at the end there. Also when Oscar was shuffling his male MF boy posters for about five minutes, Robin was behind him in the shot and I swear he barely blinked.

The reactions of Theoz and Danne to getting through were quite charming in different ways. Poor glittery Omar.

Brave confused Oscar. Google translate was not working but I also wasn't sure about the new VTs, I think the older more impersonal ones were better. I did not like the running down the steps and up again to get to the second stage. Give them a catwalk.

I'm sure they will when they get the crowds back in; I assume walking through the crowd was supposed to feel 'more intimate' but you're right it was just a bit clunky.

Finally managed to rewatch the whole thing - it's not so much the songs (not great but hardly unlistenable on the whole), it's everything else around it that was just really poorly executed and poorly compensated.
 
This will probably be pulled soon, but if anyone wants to re-live it. (I still think the stage show is dreadful, but I seem to be in the minority. Good song/vocal either way though!)

 
I don't see it personally, but whatever it takes for Sweden to send a woman I guess!
 
I think it could win but the performance needs a bit of work - better camera work could make it so much more effective. Also she should hug the disc before she spins it x
 
Yeah after watching the performance today it certainly wasn’t the disaster some quarters were proclaiming it to be. It’s tweaks in places, not an overhaul.

I was a bit surprised he recreated the creepy dance off from last year (minus cricket garb). I did wonder for a second if Oscar was going to take off the mask :D

Oscar is actually getting fine reviews from journalists and the production people.

A function in the app or something made some ppl unable to vote. The whole program was cut into pieces and glued back together from act 2 forward. It’s called the greatest production mishap of the modern Melfest (2002-).
