I have special regard for BOY because, for some reason, the version of Fever released here had that and Butterfly tacked as bonus tracks.

my fever had tightrope on the end. i only realised yesterday kids is the penultimate track on light years - on my copy it's right after your disco needs you. probably a "pirated" copy but i must say those pirates did a better job of concealing how much of a second thumb it is in the context of the album.
 
What is all this Butterfly talk and why is it so good

For some context @funky from her on out, after BIR split (though they would work together again later), one half, namely Steve Anderson would go on to become a long term musical collaborator for Kylie and more importantly the musical director of all her tours after 1998.
 
Ooh which album did BIR come back to her on?

I didn't even know they were still a thing. I idolised them in the 90s as a teenager. And yet, there is so much of their work I have yet to discover.
 
Dave Seaman hasn't worked with her since IP but I think that's because he doesn't do any production any more. I think they got back together to do a few remixes for other artists in the Noughties though I could be wrong.

Boy is such a hot, slick banger. it could/should have made Fever. def a top 3 Kylie B-SIDE (along with Made of Glass and BPM, naturellement)
 
Thanks to funky I've been blasting Impossible Princess for the past two weeks. What a RECORD. Some remixes are pretty good too.

It's nice that every now and then Kylie acknowledges it in a subtle way (Did It Again in the Light Year tour, Breathe in the Golden Tour, Cowboy, Limbo and Dreams in the Fever tour) even if she drops them by the 4th night :basil:
 
I think Impossible Princess is my most wanted album on vinyl ever. Preferably with a second disc of the bsides and other tracks.

I still can’t fathom why they haven’t gotten around to it yet.
 
I think they're underestimating its appeal to be honest.
Can you imagine a limited 5K run for RSD? It would be snapped up in seconds..

I don't agree at all. They know she has a massive fanbase- why else did Disco sell so well on the back of ridiculous amounts of multiple formats? And the Sainsburys vinyls showed how well she sells as well...
 
Kylie is dramatically underrepresented on vinyl- Impossible Princess, Body Language, X have never been released and then there's a whole host which go for ridiculous amounts of money...

06 Password - Well I wasn't expecting this. It opens like Deee-Lite, all squelchy and camp and psychedelic. It starts off well enough but it does get a bit too BUSY leading into the chorus and the chorus is a bit NOISY. It's such an odd choice of opening song in the context of what I already do know of the album, I don't see how it fits into her change of direction. It's almost like an announcement of saying goodbye to the 90s and then moving into her pop dance. Anyway I can't see myself ever going back to this, but I'm going to give it credit for being creative.

09 Spinning Around - so yeah how can anyone not like this etc. I'm not sure how this was received elsewhere but I do remember this being a BIG DEAL in the UK; even though it was only 3 years removed from her last album and she'd hardly fell off the face of the earth, this was treated as a MAJOR comeback. Possibly because many probably thought that Kylie's best days were behind her and while she might continue to make music, her chance of another #1 was long gone. How wrong we were! The video helped obviously, but let's not take away from the fact that there is a real magic to the simplicity of this song. It's disco, but it's not a 70s pastiche; it doesn't even sound like traditional disco at all, nor does it sound 70s or even 80s. It's the funky electro of the time transformed into accessible pop.

07 On A Night Like This - OK so this is interesting. My hazy memory of this Kylie era is me really getting on board with the big singles, the #1s, but largely hating her singles otherwise and so not really bothering with the albums or any interest in her generally. So I'm thinking time must have been kind to this because this is MUCH better than I remember it. Having not heard it in an age, I'm instantly noticing that its that standard what I call "The 1999 sound"... others will know, was it Stargate that produced all these similar sounding songs? They all seemed to have a go - "Be With You" (Enrique), "Waiting For Tonight" (JLo), "Not Over You Yet" (Diana Ross), "When The Heartache Is Over" (Tina)... it's the same song! That era is all coming back to me now... I actually quite like all those songs to be fair (Enrique had the best one though IMO)...
 
06 So Now Goodbye - oh this actually isn't bad. It's all a bit bog standard, but far from hateful. A very passable album track. God this album must have been such a huge sigh of relief to Kylie gays everywhere :D this reminds me of that Atomic Kitten song "Right Now". It's disco on poppers... the sort of song you'd hear on the Queer As Folk soundtrack. NOT A BAD THING MIND.
