FABULOUSY soapy dramatisation of the incredible Anna Delvey/Sorokin story by SHONDA RHIMES. A story that I've been obsessed with ever since I first read about it.

If you've never read the original article, it really is ESSENTIAL READING. Get ready to lose at least 30 mins of your life, plus additional GOOGLING :disco:

LOVING the show too. It's a bit bloated, but I'd rather a 9 hour epic series than a CRAMMED IN 2 hour film.
Julia Garner really gives a sensational, and very believable, performance as Anna dropping passive-aggressive zingers left right and centre, and the supporting cast (especially for the Anna scenes) are brilliant. Kate Burton as Nora is :disco:

My main ISSUE is the boring scenes about the reporter and her husband/mundane life which is ripped straight out of Devil Wears Prada. But fine whatever, I guess the show needed a dose of REAL LIFE as not to run away too far with Anna' FABULOUS and INSANE WEB OF LIES :disco:
 
I love Julia Garner in Ozark, so I'm dipping my toes into this.
 
Am at episode 6, I pretty much love everyone portrayed, Anna, Neff, that rich woman from Ibiza, the ridiculously goodlooking Val and Chase, even Anna's lawyer, yet i really can't stand that journalist.
 
OK after getting through to episode 7 it's starting to drag a bit. Not the Anna scenes, which I'm finding generally rather FUN - but the insistence of shoving the journalist in at seemingly EVERY MOMENT POSSIBLE. It really needs a lot less journalist, and a lot more Anna.

It's silly escapist fun, but really could have been trimmed down to a really sharp 4-5 episode mini-series focusing mostly on Anna.

I listened to the dramatised podcast of the story and it was great.
I will put this in my To Watch list
 
I remember reading that article a couple of years ago and it's always stayed with me. Incredible there's an actual drama series on Netflix just a few years later :D

Would also be here for a six-part documentary series, too. :disco:

Watched episode 1 last night. A nice enough intro to set the tone, now I'm ready for all the absurdities to unfold.

I think I must have listened to the same one as I have her voice (or the voice of the actress) drilled into my brain :D

I don't need another retread of the same story, good as it is, especially not with that extra special Netflix padding :zombie:
 
I broadly enjoyed this, but agree with the sentiment that the episode in Germany was a waste of fucking humanity. We want Anna, not the journalist and some old Germans.

Also, the pregnancy storyline could have been dropped. It didn't really add much narrative wise. I'm sure they could have shown how the story took over her life in a more entertaining way.

That being said Julia Garner is incredibly watchable and I want to see much more crazy shit from her.
 
Oh yes episode 8 was a HATE CRIME! What was worse was that the actual plot points featured (what happened to Anna in LA) only took up about 10 minutes of it's 1 hour 10 mins runtime. A total waste of life.

Bizarre choice to try and humanise Anna, when the show completely failed at it ANYWAY, and I really don't think the real Anna has any interest in being depicted as a sympathetic character whatsoever :D It really seems she IS the way SHE IS, and that is THAT.

I note that a realty tv show following the REAL Anna is currently in talks/possibly in production. That could very much be APPOINTMENT VIEWING TV!
 
Were we supposed to be cheering for Anna by the end? The writers in Scriberia were but she was just the same massive cunt she’s always been.

And everyone just seemed to think she still had money. Apparently she was good for the stylist at £1200 a day despite the article that was quite popular and the stylist knew about her back story
 
I know I'm late but

how the fuck did Anna end up paying the 30k bill at the 12 George hotel and then managed to buy plane tickets to MOROCCO and take friends along with her? Is this cleared up in the future episodes at some point?

She settled the 30k hotel bill from the 200k overdraft she wangled to pay her big loan application retainer. After she cancelled her application when she found out about them wanting to carry out du-diligence on her family, QUELLE SURPRISE she got some of her 100k retainer back and used that to pay off her bill.

“According to court documents, she accuses Netflix of making a “deliberate decision for dramatic purposes” to show her doing or saying things that she says portray her “as a greedy, snobbish, disloyal, dishonest, cowardly, manipulative and opportunistic person.”

I thought she just came across as dumb.
 
I'm watching this now, although this thread has dismissed any foolish idea I had that the annoying journo was just going to be a temporary framing device :(
 
The real Anna Delvey has now been cast on Dancing With The Stars, because of course she has.
