CARDIFF calling with a RINGING endorsement…

Awful in almost every respect. Both my Mum and I have got awful stomachs from the nearly inedible breakfasts we had there earlier today. They consisted of cheap and stale ingredients, and were served almost instantly, and upon eating it we knew why. They had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp or similar for quite some time.The bread was so tough and chewy on our breakfast rolls that neither my mum or I could get our teeth through them. My mum had to discard half of her roll because she was worried it would dislodge her crowns! Bacon was also massively undercooked, and I can only describe the overall taste as cheap and nasty. There was also a large amount of condensation on the bottom of the bun making it soggy and VERY chewy, where it must have been sitting somewhere very hot for a long time. Yes they were indeed cheap as part of a breakfast coffee deal, but they should at least be edible. Not expecting it to be cooked fresh, but at least cooked within the last hour! Furthermore the tables and chairs are so tatty and eroded that they look like they moonlight as furniture used by sellers at carboots. Doesn't give the station a good image at all. Also abysmal was the service. There seem to be two ordering points, and I apparently queued up at the wrong one behind two women being served, because when it came to be my turn the girl asked for my order and then immediately walked away for about half a minute and returned to tell me to come around the other side. No pleases or thankyous or smiles, just abruptness and no idea how to deal with people efficiently and politely. Shall make a conscious effort to go to somewhere else if I need refreshments around the station area.

Apparently there is some CONTROVERSY surrounding this particular PUMPKIN CAFE SEATING AREA.



Situated on Manchester Oxford Road Station is this Pumpkin cafe/shop. It's small inside with some high wooden stools. What is deceiving is that the seating area belongs to the train station not the cafe so you can take food in from elsewhere or sit in there without buying anything. I was told this by the guard when I asked if there was any indoor seating on the station.
Problem is when I went to go in about 5pm it was locked cos the shop had shut!

While waiting for a train at Bournemouth Station on Saturday morning 27th August 2013 I popped into the Pumpkin Cafe on the platform. No welcoming smile here! A sullen, off-hand girl who never gave me any eye contact served me a coffee. She put the Danish pastry I asked for into a paper bag. When I asked if she could please put it on a plate as I would be eating in the cafe her co-worker told me that most people don't mind eating out of paper bags. When I said I wasn't most people he slung the pastry onto a plate with a tired sigh which raised a smile from the bored girl. I ate my snack surrounded by dirty tables and crumpled up paper bags. The loud French rap music playing was more suited to a nightclub than a family station cafe at 10 in the morning. Certainly the many pensioners I saw coming in and out of the place would not have 'got it'. But the music was for the two lazy assistants, of course, not the customers.
The Pumpkin Cafe could do with an enthusiastic manager, someone with standards who wants customers to return. I left there with a bad taste in my mouth wishing that someone like Alex Polizzi from The Hotel Inspector could show them how to run a busy catering establishment at a major railway station used by lots of tourists from here and abroad. I'm sure the owners would be thrilled to see how their business is being handled behind their backs!
 
I must say that I always demand up to the minute sounds when I'm luxuriating with a pricey and very tempting DANISH PASTRY in Pumpkin. What did this person expect? MANTOVANI?
 
What is it exactly which renders a pastry DANISH? Is it the glazing? Not to my taste but I'd eat a bagful of stale ones if they were free :disco:
 
Surely in a train station coffee shop, the music actually is for the employees, not the ambiance

Well quite although I do think that some SOOTHING WHALE SONG might help the grisly goods go down a bit more effectively in popular hotspot PUMPKIN. Not nice to have to have a SICK BUCKET by the door :(

I think train station culture is a bit more of a THING in the UK, we sadly don’t seem to have our own version of a widespread cultural icon like Pumpkin - at our big stations you might be lucky enough to get a WH Smith where they charge about $15 for a THIMBLE of water

I’m actually posting LIVE from a train RIGHT NOW and here’s a review I found of the station I just passed through (Flinders Street):

Ok, like a English railway station, bit cleaner, and people are nice. Toilets are inside the station. A nice Indian restaurant opposite.

There does seem to be a certain type which works in glamorous station-based eateries such as Pumpkin, and the word which comes to mind is RESENTFUL

It’s not OUR fault you never went to school!
 
I looked up Atlanta's train station to see what it has, but no luxurious cafés, just a waiting room (conveniently closed between 3 and 6 pm) and vending machines

The men that work here are sweethearts...but the women a different story ...you'll need patience

If you get here and a freight train is preventing your train from coming in, call Amtrak corporate to let them know (complain)! 202-906-3000

A cluster**** of epic proportions. Be prepared to stand and not be given arrival or departure times. Smells like cauliflower. :/ Station needs to be 3x as big to effectively serve a city this size.

There’s a very unpleasant woman who works in my local Sainsbury’s who once gave me 20 PALL MALL and said, “There’s someone who comes in here who looks like you who buys Pall Mall so that’s why I gave you Pall Mall.”

ALSO she once refused to give me the requested coinage (for the launderette, before the washing machine finally arrived) in my change “BECAUSE I CAN’T.” No it’s because you’re passive-aggressive and wielding power where you find it. I refused to go in there for at least three days after that so that showed her :)

The website also states (under the accessibility tab) that is has no bathrooms

Very topical, I think, given the current Russia / Ukraine political unrest. :(

That reads like a classic FALSE FLAG to me, probably by the meddle-makers at Delice de France :evil:
