Anna Bergendahl's Higher Power is a nice sequel to Ashes to Ashes and Kingdom Come which possibly goes more in the schlager direction. It is built for cool effects on stage, where the chorus breaks off towards the verse. And Anna always sings well. The question is whether viewers will think it stands out enough compared to her latest songs.

Lillasyster goes more in the pop direction than last year's Pretender, which was a nice rock ballad. Till Our Days Are Over is more arena pop, and maybe a little Takida, if it were not for Martin Westerstrand's raspy rock voice. They have added some shouting vocals as well, perhaps to show that it is actually rock and nothing else. A clear chorus, but this week the starting field is tough.

Malin Christin sincerely makes a sincere break up ballad in the Molly Sandén direction, with piano accompaniment. The last chorus gets a heavier bass to add a little power that can give a boost on stage.

Tenori makes the kind of opera musical that is rarely heard anywhere else than at Melodifestivalen. But there, on the other hand, it has its obvious place in the heart of the TV audience. And these are two guys who can really sing and show it from the first note to the last concluding crescendo, which never ends. If they are relaxed, have fun on stage and do not take themselves too seriously, this can definitely work.

Medina does something as strange as Russian-Balkan-ethno-pop in Swedish with kazoo-doodelidi (or is it a vuvuzela?). It stands out. And is both fun and effective, without being quirky, contrived or inventive.

Angelino has been hyped in the pre-talk since before Christmas, despite the fact that he is virtually unknown. This is a modern pop ballad in Duncan Laurence land where the result will depend entirely on stage delivery and that people believe in what Angelino sings. Possibly he can falter because of the audience being tired of there already being a lot of ballads and mid-tempo songs in the final, just if people start to overanalyze.

Klara Hammarström's Run to the Hills has clear EDM drops interspersed in a hectic melody with several difficult-to-sing parts where it will really be up to her to set the stage. I get out of breath just by listening to the song. This is written to win the Melodifestivalen, but then Klara also needs to deliver better than she has ever done before.
 
Really not looking forward to the prospect of Angelino vs Anders in the final :zombie:
 
It's really obviously going to be Angelino vs Cornelia. I'm not sure Anders is being hyped as a winner at all at this point?

I thought he had a lot of goodwill behind him due to his backstory? He’s currently second in the odds too, though granted that doesn’t mean MUCH.

Yeah but traditionally that sort of thing gets you direkt and then a good televote in the final, rather than winning the whole thing per se.
 
Angelina sounds fucking shit but the rest sound phenomenal. Hoping Dr B & Klara DTF from those descriptions, with any combination of Lillasyster, Tenori and Medina going to AC.
 
I think cooler heads will prevail by the final RE Anders. It’s clearly just fun for the locals.

Back in 08 loads of Swedes told me in Stockholm that Christer Sjögren was obviously going to win because he was such a beloved national figure. Didn’t even come close in the end.

So worryingly it actually seems like he is. Quite a lot.

I don't think it will matter in the end. The Swedish voters do seem to get their game face on when it comes to the final and there's a handful of songs that no doubt will be preferred by the international juries, but it won't change the fact he'll be going into the final as one of the major favourites.
