The War in Ukraine

Thats what I mean! I should have known more about it

I don't think you're that much different to the majority of Western countries. Anything east of Germany is one big cluster of countries. Most people wouldn't be able to tell you which of the Eastern Bloc are ex Soviet and which are not. Western Businesses tend to cluster them as well - most international departments will have a UK boss, German, France, Spain, Italy, then Scandinavia lumped together, and then "CEE". Culturally it's all a blur for most people.

You're right it is absburd. But then most people in the UK wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between India and Pakistan.

Fucking Hell. I don't really know what to say about this other than that I hope the people of the Ukraine can stay strong, the sovereignty of all European nations remains intact, and Putin is soon killed in the most horrific, inhumane, degrading way imaginable.

I can’t get my head around just living your life normally one day and then living in this the next.

What an awful day.

My bf is Russian, and he cried when he woke up this morning. He told me he finally realised he can never go home.

My first Teams call was with a Russian colleague / friend I have known for 10 years. She had to disconnect because she couldn't stop crying.

This is horrific for Ukrainians, and also awful for decent, non-brainwashed Russians (yes, they exist) whose country is being destroyed by a lunatic.

The Ukrainian people didn't even get a chance. He just marched in 😞

Is this any different to us pronouncing Paris different to the French? Genuine question.
Yes. The English Kiev is taken from the Russian name. It feels wrong to use the name of their oppressors. And unlike the French, Ukraine has repeatedly asked everyone to change.

I have lots of memories of visiting Lviv, this is really surreal and painful to watch. I spent a year living in Russia in 2010 as part of my degree and not a single one of my Russian friends is in favour of this, but they feel completely powerless over it. It's really scary.

Bloody hell. Just when you think he couldn’t get more stupid.

Jesus Christ on a frigging bike

There is just too much to unpack here and the worst thing of all is that you just know there are millions of Americans sat at home nodding along, somehow in full agreement that this wouldn't have happened if Trump was still President.

Wow and the way this anchor is saying how the Ukrainian president looked pathetic.

That shook me. The American (right wing) rhetoric is just unbelievable. It hadn't occured to me that anywhere in the West would anyone be attacking the Ukrainian government right now as weak, but come on down Fox News...

What a cunt! I wasn’t sure if she was supposed to be pro-Russia or just hates the ”weak”.

I guess it doesn’t really matter, but any idea why has he reported the Chernobyl news to the Prime Minister of Sweden in particular ?
