There is a decent amount of, admittedly anecdotal, evidence that this is going down quite badly in Russia.

I haven't come across a Russian yet who is pro, although admittedly my contacts are already pretty on the liberal side. But Putin's approval ratings were already pretty low, this really isn't the success he thought it would be in turning that around.

I stand by my earlier statement, we need to seize Chelsea FC before I believe its enough. Take every property, land or business owned by an oligarch on British soil.
These sanctions *sound* OK, but seem to be concentrated on cash and banks, and any decent financial Russian businessman probably moved their money months ago in anticipation.

Yes it’s a case of this is the Kremlin’s war not the people’s. They see the Ukrainians as their little brothers, and don’t understand the rationale for attacking a family member and becoming an international pariah.
I think some also have memories of the Chechen wars in the 1990s and how many of their men/sons were conscripted and killed back then.

The biggest surprise for me today were the outbreak of protests in Russia.
Also the headlining of "bloodiest conflict in Europe since WW2". I understand what potential this has, but has Yugoslavia, which was horrific, been quietly forgotten?

I am told this is really VERY BAD for Russia if it's true - it means their special forces unit has been defeated and that it's going to be quite hard for them to take Kyiv as they don't have an airbase to do it from!

There was a video circulating earlier of one man sobbing as he said goodbye to his children. They were being evacuated as he stayed back to fight. It was utterly heart-breaking.
