Sorry that this is has taken such a sports-centric turn. It's just a good mirror of how people act on this or don't act on this.
 
If they capture (or God forbid kill) Zelensky, I feel there is no choice but to escalate. Fuck German industry.

I saw earlier that the Ukrainian government advised they think Russia plans to capture government buildings and disrupt the electricity network in Kyiv to create panic and a huge exodus of refugees. This would block the key roads in/out of the city and wider region, making it difficult the Ukrainian army to move around. The government also expect a co-ordinated series of Russian attacks on the borders at the same time, designed to overstretch their army as they defend on multiple fronts.

They expect the Russians to try and capture Zelenskiy and other government officials and force them to surrender on Russian terms. Their fear is the country will be forcibly divided into two, with Eastern Ukraine and Kyiv under the Russian sphere. It's like the Cold War 2.0. Whether or not it plays out that way, we can only wait and see. :(

SWIFT is an acronym for the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications and may also be referred to as a CIC code.

IF we end up with a divivded Ukraine, I’m secretly hoping for the comeback of the Kingdom of Galicia with its beautiful capital Lemburg (Lviv).

It used to be the poorest and least developed part of the Habsburg empire but it always sounded so exciting to me as it was also very multiethnic and where all the shtetl Jews lived. :disco:

I understand the financial reasons behind their concerns, but I mean for these two countries specifically, I was expecting that principle should be over and above anything else in their first reaction cause it's easier for them to put themselves in Ukraine's shoes than it is for the rest.

I only heard about it a couple of weeks ago and it was in the context of the Ukrainian crisis.
 
Trying to console a Polish friend into not worrying that his country's next, given its history, because even Putin surely wouldn't be so deranged as to try and invade NATO. Not sure I believe my own words though at this point :(
