Obvious things that took you ages to realise!

I have a generally good sense of direction but I seem to have real issues with where certain UK cities are in relation to each other (partly because I'm not very well traveled in the UK)

For a very long time I thought:

Nottingham was midlands but closer to the south than the north :bad: I think it was when I heard our JACK speak and say things like "chuck" I was like... wait, what?
Hull was over by Leeds and NOT on the East Coast
Wales was fucking MILES away (the border is about 15km from Liverpool and about a ten minute drive from my Dad's on the Wirral)
Oxford and Cambridge were up the road from each other. They're nowhere near each other!


and many others :D

THE FORMER

I quite like a pickle on occasion or WALLY as we call them in certain parts of the Royaume Uni. Mind you I had some Polish ones in a bag a while ago and they were VILE

Oh, yes! I thought this too. I think I may even have thought the river they did the boat race on was what separated them and the residents stood on either side clicking their fingers like the Sharks and the Jets.

exactly something like that :D

I think I just always assumed the posh bits were all bunched together in a certain part of England.

Turns out, Oxford AIN'T THAT POSH :eyes:
 
When I was a kid and the weather came on the TV I thought the map of the UK was the entire world :D

For years I got the expression glass half full and half empty the other way round.
Saying the glass is half full to me sounds like you’re stressing that it’s well only half full…it doesn’t sound optimistic to me.
 
That the letters I was getting from my English penpals as a kid were never going to have stamps depicting landscapes or anything other than the Queen.
Which was a letdown for my little stamp collection purposes. Also that the Royal Mail wasn't a service operated by the palace.
