Oscars 2022

I came here for the Will Smith and Chris Rock DEBACLE. What the FUCK? Chris get the HUMOURLESS CUNT done for ASSAULT. Jeez, it’s not like he said anything OFFENSIVE.

You don't think telling a joke about someone's recent alopecia to their face when they've spoken about how much it's damaged their mental health is offensive?

Honestly I really feel like the deal here should be that comedians should be free to tell exceptionally shitty jokes, but if someone smacks them for it they should at least have the decency to admit they've been caught bang to rights and deserved it!

Also my god, the pearl clutching in here over someone slapping someone for saying something deeply shitty about their nearest and dearest! Have any of you ever been outside

Oh my God, I had no idea! I genuinely thought she shaved her head as she liked it that way as she has been sporting it that way for many years, but obviously if she suffers from alopecia that is why. Not like me to put my UNEDUCATED SIZE 4 IN IT. 🤦‍♀️

It was the ACADEMY AWARDS! :D

Telling potentially offensive jokes is literally Chris Rock's job here. Smith hasn't just snapped in the moment. He has left his seat and walked up to the stage with violence on his mind. This is very much a 'mask slipping' moment for me.

Anyway bored of Will Smith already. Very happy for Drive My Car winning Best International :disco:
It's a shame Flee missed out on either animation or documentary (or BOTH), but I understand Encanto had animation sewn up. Writing With Fire would have been lovely for documentary too.

Congrats to Dune for winning SO MANY awards :disco: Alas technical only, but Timmy did wear a LOVELY BLOUSE with a hint of NIP on the red carpet :disco:

I read the synopsis for the film that won Best Picture and backed away IMMEDIATELY. Absolutely not for me I can tell already.
Shame Power Of The Dog (or Drive My Car) didn't get Best Picture, but both are incredibly divisive as films, so I can see why they didn't.

Fair. Smith had plenty of time to roll that one back.

Yes, the joke was in bad taste, but resorting to violence is worse and sort of makes you lose the argument.
Absolutely this. I'm discussing it with a friend at the moment who is on Will Smiths side. I just cannot condone it. Will Smith would have been far better putting Chris Rock down in a comment during his acceptance speech.

Or better yet, making a comment about how amazing Jada looks (maybe he did, I couldn't get through it).

I mean, this is all well and good but you also know one black man smacking another at the Academy Awards is going to play right into the hands of certain segments of the public. "Violent Thugs" etc etc. :zombie:
Sure they might! But I don't think "some people might be racist about this" is worth shit

Eurgh some of my friends are on FB all "Go Will".

Fuck off. Let's all promote violence :manson:

Did Chris Rock actually know about Jada's alopecia?

Not justified on Will's part whichever way you swing it (which was HARD in Will's case by the looks of it) but even worse if he had no clue.

Pretty unfortunate for something so personally upsetting to them both to play out so publicly though

I wondered this, from what I've seen and read no one seems to know if he knew.

I actually think Jadas eye roll at Chris Rock's comment was far more powerful than Wills punch.
