I try to be aware if someone has had significantly less than everyone else and suggest just sorting that person out separately.

Went to a wine bar the other week where you could scan a QR code on the table and it brought up the bill, so you ticked off what you’d had, it added on your share of tip and you paid electronically. I thought that was marvellous

Also @Star I'd be annoyed about the bill splitting thing. I see nothing wrong with all paying for what you've eaten rather than splitting of equally.

My system with this is to do it on rotation, so if we go out with friends to dine and wine, the first time is on us, and in general it works great cause it's usually just another couple or a couple of friends so it's easy to remember whose turn it is. The only problem with this is that sometimes there isn't a second time

In this day and age it's surprising more places don't do as something like this. I feel waiters are useless except for bringing the food to your table! Our one last night messed up the order so much. Would be easier to order with QR code and pay that way!!
