2022 French Presidential Election

I've just started following this. I know very little about European politics. So, hypothetically, how much worse would the Ukrainian Crisis become if Le Pen was to be elected? WOULD it be worse?

Not sure what lies she’s telling now, but she’s pro-Putin and her party has recieved financial support from Russia. She could partially withdraw France from NATO, and she might be against further sanctions against Russia, or even, as an excuse for improving the cost of living for the French, lift some of the current sanctions against Russia.

She wants French law to be above EU law, which is incompatible with EU law and would either lead to a ”Frexit” or at least a very disfunctional union. We already see how Hungary and Poland block EU sanctions against one of them. Having France becoming another pariah state within the union is a gift from heaven to Russia (who benefits from a fragmented Europe).

Ultimately she wants to create an apartheid state where immigrants shouldn’t have the same rights as the ”real French”.

Do you genuinely believe that Macron is, in any way, anti-LGBTQ? There is absolutely nothing I have seen over the last five years that would lead me to believe that he is not the major candidate most supportive of gay rights.
He is!

Putin financed Le Pen’s last election campaign, she owes him 11 Million Euros .. so you can imagine the answer

French politics is so confusing. Is Valerie Pecresse to the right of Macron but not as bad as Le Pen?

Yes. It's partly how Macron has managed to destroy the Republicans by cannibalising them though.

The best way to think of Macron is to think of him as someone who pitched himself as a New Labour/Clegg-era Lib Dem type, that REALLY leaned into stuff like tax cuts for the rich etc. the second he got elected. The Republicans are economically right wing but still quite socially conservative (Pecresse built her rep on campaigning against gay marriage). Le Pen is socially very right wing but is open to economic left wing stuff/'autarky' in terms of trade, but with the benefits going towards 'French citizens'.

The traditional right (Sarkozy, Chirac) as opposed to the tradition Parti Socialiste left (Mitterrand, Hollande). So yeah, sure, she's supposed to be to the right of Macron and to the left of Le Pen. But honestly there's so little separating the three of those, it's just a battle of 'who's going come up with the most racist stuff this week?'.

Things are getting DESPERATE.

We still haven’t established that we can detest both the Brexit Party and the Tories without necessarily supporting the most racist of the two? Well that’s unfortunate.

We’ve lived through Brexit, Trump, Orban, Erdogan and 4x Conservative majorities. For the love of God, side with the lesser of two evils and go back to hating him in May!

@Dark Carnival you can literally have those concerns tickets for free if you vote for Macron. I mean he’s a cunt but COME ON.

Am I allowed to make fun of his sad attempts while I side with him? Good grief.
