Good morning 🌞 I slept in the spare room last night as ZG is ill, but I'm feeling fine and the weather's looking nice so I'm going to have a day out somewhere (haven't decided where yet).

My God I'm exhausted. Teaching on 60% hours right now. Which doesn't sound like much, but doing this all for the first time, with planning and marking and meetings, it's a lot. Going up to 80٪ soon. It's not putting me off though.

I still love it. A 12 year old girl and her friends stopped me after a lesson the other day and said "we heard you're gay". I said yes and proud. The girl said "I'm gay too". I said "good for you, as long as you're happy", which I think was the right thing.

I had a little happy cry after. Makes the exhausting hours totally worth it.

I wear a rainbow heart on the back of my lanyard, I openly talk about my "husband" to the kids if it's necessary to the conversation. I think visible representation is important. I would have loved to be able to be able to talk about it when I was at school, instead of being told to be less girly when I complained about homophobic bullying. It's nice to give them a clear opportunity to talk about the stuff I wasn't allowed to.

Oh I do think my VERY GAY English teacher knew exactly why I reached a point where I struggled to put pen to paper for any sort of creative writing as I was so repressed would have made a big difference if he could have actually said anything !
 
I think out teachers are very important. In 7th grade, my English teacher, who I already loved, told me she had gone to pride the previous weekend, and it made me feel really good. I’m working with teenagers this summer and would love to have a positive impact in that way
