Read my Monday Language, and do what you like.

Moopy, has anyone been following the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial?

I keep seeing stuff about it so now I'm trying to catch up daily. And I'm getting more and more obsessed with Johnny. I mean, I always liked him...but he's so hot now he's older :horny:

We've got a whole thread on it Rach!

Summary: they're both complete shits.

How is it possible for our accountant to be so useless :argh:

Have YOU been following the trial? :D

I went out with an accountant for a bit, why on earth do they think you want to hear about their work! Did I ask how your day at work was, no, I was very careful NOT TO.
I try to stick to stories about people being cunts

Anyone had a TOOTH OUT? Is it traumatic? Is it going to hurt much after!

Also anyone had one of this temporary flippers put in? I need to wear one for 3 months before they can fit a bridge, will it feel weird or will I get used to it?

I've had three wisdom teeth out. As long as the anaesthetic does its job, it's quite an interesting sensation. Much nicer than a root canal.

Doesn't really hurt after, but DON'T SMOKE or you'll get DRY SOCKET

What did they do/not do? :D
Firstly they set up my Nest pension but put the wrong date of birth so Nest didn't link it with my old one and now I have two running, so far I've been trying to merge them for 2 months.

Secondly they gave me my Rolys Nest ID, but gave me totally the wrong number so when I have been trying to merge them, Nest can't find my Rolys one.

Thirdly they're supposed to keep a record of holiday hours the team accrue and use, but have "forgotten" to do so, so we have no idea what people have used.

Fourthly, 3 weeks ago I emailed them asking what the plan was at the end of our financial year on the best way to pay me as a director, today, the day I'm due to be paid, they have emailed saying they want to discuss it with us.

Fifthly, they're not not answering any calls when we try and call them. :argh:

I didn't mind my root canal experience. It didn't hurt and I found it quite interesting.

Are you able to change accountants or do you have to use these people as part of the franchise agreement?

If you don't have to use them I'd suggest letting them do your year-end accounts then find a replacement quickly because those first three things tell me that your payroll is being "phoned in" on a software package by somebody who doesn't care about attention to detail. Only once, in the literally hundreds of Nest Pension schemes I've set up for clients, was a date of birth incorrect and when that flagged up it turned out the employee had deliberately lied about her age to her employer (which opened up a can of worms but obviously wasn't my fault).

Why are you having to sort out the Nest Pension merging yourself? If your accountants are agents for you with Nest (ie. they submit the contributions and enrolments) all you need to do is give them your old Nest ID and they can ring Nest, give them the details and explain what happened and Nest will get in contact with you to confirm it's correct and sort it.

You should not have to wait until your year-end to decide the most advantageous way you are paid as a Director. That is something that is sorted out in the first meeting when we get a new client, we give them options and examples and explain it all for them but there is still the option to change it on the year end accounts should the company have done better/worse than expected.

They're not answering your calls because they don't have the bollocks to defend their own incompetence.

It sounds to me like you have lazy git useless accountants. I really hope you aren't tied to them.

We can change accountants, but most of the Rolys use this one for their first couple of years so we assumed they knew what they were doing.

The nest thing is driving me mad, I've phoned the accountants multiple times about it and they never picked up the DOB was wrong. They've somehow merged mine and Mandys together.

When they did call nest, apparently nest told them to tell me I had to sort it 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I then couldn't sort it because the accountant gave me the employer nest account number instead of my personal one. So far I've been trying to sort this for 2.5 months.

When we first set up, they told us just to pay me as a normal salaried employee, but for 6 months I didn't pay national insurance. When I questioned that they just said it was normal as a director. Then I found out for the last 6 months I was having to pay double NI, which really screwed me over! So I again questioned it and they said we needed to think of the best way to pay me this year. That was 3 months ago. I've since emailed them asking how I'm being paid. And I'm still no closer to knowing.

I think ultimately our plan is to get Mandy to work for us full time and she will do the payroll / holiday etc and we will just use the accountants for the end of year tax returns.

Yes but I don't remember it because I was on ALL THE ANAESTHETICS.

I would laugh if all that wasn't happening to somebody I know! There's an alternative method of calculation for directors' NI which spreads the NI out over the year as it would with an employee, we would always use this as a default unless we knew that the director would be leaving later in the year or the company would be closing. Have they told you that you can actually pay yourself whatever and whenever you want and you don't need to follow what's on the payslips? Doing it that way, when they do the year-end, any money paid to you will be in one pot and the amount payable through payroll would be deducted from that and the balance would be directors loan/dividends. That they're telling you to pay yourself what the payslips say it makes me think they use some kind of integrated cloud software that basically means you do the work for them, do you send them your bank transactions electronically (on either a csv file or a pdf)? If so they'll have automated it to recognise bank transactions with a particular description and the software automatically allocates it to an account code.

I'll PM you about payroll.

All I know is from what Mandy has said, they use a payroll system and charge us £8 per employee!
