Oh fucking hell this thread has been hyping me so much I've lost all sense of perspective :D

I mean I'm not obsessing about something FAIRLY TRIVIAL at the end of the day but it does feel like she's been in contention for WEEKS!
 
There's really no reason she shouldn't do a radio interview - she has done them every time she's released anything so fingers crossed!

I'm wondering if she'll show her appreciation by finally accepting a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music/Icon Award next year? Speaking of next year, after all this US exposure she surely must be a shoo-in for the Rock Hall of Fame?!?

I'm sure I read that the week it climbed into the Top 10, it surpassed Wuthering Heights to become her top seller. And that it was on about 630k or so then.
 
I've just noticed there are 2 people here now who have given this a zero.
 
The SONG, not the video just came up on my YouTube recommend videos. I've never seen that before.

She's broken the algorithm.

I wonder if it might not already be. RUTH should be on about 750k by the end of this week based purely on "sales" from the "digital era". Chuck on whatever she sold originally in the 80s...

2Step is the only new arrival in the Top 10 but trails a re-entry, namely Kate Bush classic Running Up That Hill, which makes a sensational return at No.8 (26,159 sales) powered by its prominent use in Season 4 of the Netflix sci-fi/drama series Stranger Things. It’s the track’s third visit to the Top 10.

A No.3 hit for Bush in 1985, it reached No.6 in 2012, when issued in a remix with a new vocal. It was already Bush’s most popular track in the digital era with consumption prior to this week of 639,271 units, putting it a little ahead of her introductory single and 1978 chart-topper Wuthering Heights (622,183) and way ahead of her No.3 song, This Woman’s Work (386,389 units). Were it not for ACR, Running Up That Hill would have achieved a new chart peak this week, with consumption of 48,234 units – good enough for No.2.

That's also my interpretation. No doubt there'll be an update on the total soon enough, particularly WHEN she passes the million mark.
 
They should bung a “collector’s edition” physical or two out and get it a few more sales.

This is confusing though - that Music Week quote above is only from nearly two weeks ago, yet yesterday they published this

But just to make things really confusing, Running Up That Hill’s overall consumption is actually down 5.1% week-on-week (remember that last week its high streaming volume was then heavily penalised by ACR). So it’s No.1 may not actually be for its biggest streaming week. For the record, the Kate Bush classic has 771,568 sales post-1994, and 165,762 this year alone (the latter figure apparently includes one picture disc vinyl edition from Record Store Day 2013 that was finally shifted to a fan last week).

So if it recorded 771k post 1994, plus the 250k @jyxz mentioned, that would put it over 1m, as @The Anti-Dubsden suggests :confused:

Why should it suddenly have jumped so much? Have they streaming sales previously calculated on ACR been reallocated to SCR? Surely not.

It can only be that when they referred to 'consumption prior to this week' they do only mean downloads and streams, and it was already rapidly approaching a million.

Seems odd not to mention that in the chart story, though.

Why wouldn't it be? I can't imagine anyone preferring the 7" mix of ANYTHING, apart from our very own in-lounge lobotomy collective who can't cope with a song lasting more than three minutes of course :)
 
12" RUTH is great, but it's just a BIT too jumbled around structurally for me to ever choose it over the original I think.

This HAS to come off, because there must be a few chart records broken tomorrow, and I'm getting excited thinking about them.

Yes and 4th overall. The top 10 at the moment are all men.

I had thought Vera Lynn had a number 1 in recent years, but it think that must have been an album only.

Yes, I had to check as well regarding Vera Lynn.

I was wondering who it was previously, and I think it may be Mariah when AIWFCIY finally hit #1?

That the top ten are all men speaks volumes about how older female artists are viewed already, but that the two oldest have only been able to achieve it with decades old songs merely hammers the point home harder.

Does that leave Cher and Madonna as the only women over 50 to have managed it?
 
Actually I think it's quite close between Mariah, Madonna and Cher in terms of age - I think Cher may still have had the edge.
