I have to fill in a personal development plan today.

What if I, personally, do not want to develop? Has anyone considered THAT?

What's everybody's objectives for the weekend ahead? (Must be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-specific).

EURGH, I am having to do a performance appraisal for someone else and I have no idea what I am doing. Can't I just put a thumbs up emoji in every box?

PDR’s are HATEFUL.
Especially when if you do well you get FUCK ALL as a result

I HEAR YOU

For some reason though, telling employers that you're quite happy stagnating doesn't seem to go down too well

The personal development ones were the worst, so intrusive, so anti life-work balance, so grandiose delusional and infuriating for the companies to believe they have a right to dictate personal development in people.

UGH, appraisals/objectives/personal development SHITE is the #2 reason I plan to stay contract until I retire

Yes, my work wanted everyone to submit something they were doing out of work to challenge or develop themselves and I just wanted to reply “it’s got fuck all to do with you”. I hate the work PDP too but can understand them.

My forehead has swollen at the sides, I'm thinking due to sunburn. My bald head is so f*cking sore, the speckles of rain when coming out the gym today felt like a soft sewing machine jabbing my scalp. Probably didn't help that I whacked my head about 3 times up the loft unsuccessfully trying to find 2 Joan Crawford DVDs.

This is something I've noticed on dating apps (well OK mostly just OKCupid) as well. The idea that you absolutely must be constantly striving for some arbitrary goal or other, whether it be work or personal. WHY? If you're happy with yourself and your life, why not just FUCKING ENJOY IT?

I’ve organised a jobs fair for today, the hottest day in recorded history. I didn’t want to organise it for today but our opinions on such things don’t matter. Shockingly, hardly anyone has turned up.

Ugh, vile. I’m not an ambitious person and I resent the idea that’s a failing.

Always irritated me in the Civil Service. Fuck knows there were enough wankers desperate for promotion and climbing the career ladder, and often not that keen on actually doing the job they were paid to do. Don't you actually NEED people who are quite happy to get their heads down and just get on with the work?

INCREASINGLY LARGER LINES OF KETAMINE

I'm quite lucky because we have all this PDP/SMART stuff at work but my boss doesn't give a rat's arse about any of it and it never happens.

Weirdly, some of the most ruthless people I’ve ever met are civil servants. There’s a lot of throwing each other under the bus and one-upmanship. Also, being a manager here is a notoriously shite job so why would I strive for that?

London update.

Not too hot.

Covent garden is amazing.

Neal's Yard is even more amazing.

Just got tickets to see & Juliet.

Bit drunk on 60% Gin in a local craft bar.

Verdict...London is not too shabby for Rachel.

Walking out of a 16c air conditioned department into this heat is QUITE SOMETHING :disco:

Covent Garden?
Did you buy one of those hidden gems books ?
No, I actually went on to Tiktok and searched "secret places to visit in covent garden" hoping it would bring up stuff I wouldn't otherwise find.

Just at Shaftesbury theatre now about to watch & Juliet then wandering back through Seven Dials and Cucumber alley!

Not too hot? It’s THIRTY ONE DEGREES!

& Juliet is incredible, I’ve seen it twice. One of the guys in it is so fit. Second time around I forgot that there’s a Thats The Way It Is Celine Dion solo and I gay gasped when it started and cried
