The same. I even time bedtime by the Brittany Ferry going past!

My bedroom is dual aspect as we live on the corner and when one of the big naval liners comes in, it’s INSANE how it feels right outside your door. I love that. When we inevitably have to give the flat up (space or age, one of the two), I’m going to struggle not to see the sea from my bedroom.

So in theory, and something I never realised before, as you can see the hovercraft, then I should probably be able to see your house from my flat then? (Binoculars necessary…)

Seeing the naval ships so close must be amazing!

We always get excited seeing any ships or ferries, even 10 years later in our flat.

Has your building got a lift?

Yes I think you probably can see our building. The hovercraft comes in almost Infront of us. But we are a couple of streets back.

Having said that, I'd be just as happy having a view of fields and hills...but I'd need to be within a 20 minute walk to the beach.

Where I am now (in terms of my head, not geographically), I very much agree with you. But when I was younger I much preferred the city and thrived on the energy of it.

I think the pandemic and lockdown really has changed me. Crowds, traffic, noise and just general busyness really irritate me now. For me there's nothing like the open sea to make me feel grounded.

Move to Portsmouth. Seriously, it’s the perfect mix of quiet when you need it and city life when you don’t.
 
Portsmouth is too big for what we'd want going forward, though. I think we're both looking for a small town vibe - just with reasonably easy access to a city.

I’m not trying to persuade you but you couldn’t be more wrong actually! Southsea is village basically. It’s almost a separate place where everyone knows everyone- and it’s super friendly and chilled. Wider Portsmouth is the “access to the city” bit…

I'm not wrong. Southsea is far too close to Portsmouth for my liking.

Same. We've been in our flat nearly ten years and the stairs are a killer. And my mum is our pet sitter when we go away, she's nearly 70 and can't keep doing the stairs.

We're looking at buying a bungalow because I love living on one level!

Yeah, my Mum’s days of getting to our flat are LONG GONE :(
 
@lolly I know you all mock the island, but have you considered visiting? We are only 20 mins from Southampton and Portsmouth, 1.5 hours from Brighton and just over an hour to London.
 
I viewed a flat yesterday, one room had no floors and a cupboard door fell off when I tried to open it. Nowhere near the sea either :o

Visiting to look for places to retire? Not really. I think we both want further west.

Yeah I was thinking retiring as it's ideal, but actually if you want west country then no. Devon is a lovely choice.
 
We fancy the cinema tomorrow night and will need to get the train to Exeter. I guess that's the flip side of living in a small town.

And I know we all mock it, but I did genuinely LOVE it those two (?) times I visited you down there. If I didn't feel the pull of the southwest so strongly it's possibly something I'd consider.

It was just around the corner from where I currently am (aka ZG's flat) - I really like the idea of staying around here at it's on the subway line, so it'd be easy to get to work. This place was RIGHT over the line though, so the building was vibrating whenever a train went under it :eyes:

@Rachey, how are you getting into Ashton Gate for the concert? Is there a park and ride or something?

Yep park and ride from Cribbs, which was a 30 minute walk from our hotel, which is full of Elton John fans.

It's a really good venue, I'm impressed. But compared to the o2 anything is good. There's actually music playing here.

We did just spend £18 on a gin & tonic and a cider tho :gross:
