Saint Swithin's Friday

My best my mate is having her birthday soiree on the green opposite her house tomorrow.

I'm already ready to burn to death.

RED WEATHER WARNING INCOMING!

Happy birthday @COB! I’m glad you got your secret birthday wish (schools being closed)

One parent has said they're not sending their children to school even though it'll register as an unauthorised absence as school will give the children a hot lunch and this will make the children sick.

Another parent is not sending because her child already has heat rash on her face and the temp hasn't even peaked yet.

For a lot of people isn't a half day a pain in terms of childcare? Presumably a lot of people will have to take the whole day off.

Well it's a 1:15pm pick up rather than 3:10, so not too bad. Plus they're offering care till 3:15 for £5/ hour, so at least there are options. Makes sense really as the peak heat is predicted 3-4pm

So they will keep your children there until the time they normally would, but charge you a tenner for the privilege? Nice.

Happy Birthday @COB !

The maximum heat we’re supposed get is 26 degrees here in Belfast next week which seems manageable compared to 38!

Does anyone know of a reputable charity where you can do something like buy a goat for an African family type thing?

Fine for the people who can afford it, who usually need it less. What if you don’t pay, is your kid impounded or something?

Exactly what I was thinking! It's just an excuse for most of the teachers to spend the afternoon in the nearest beer garden :D

It's shameless racketeering. I'd just refuse to pay if I couldn't accommodate it.

Not going to pretend I'm not obsessed with my impending death. Forecast here for Monday has dropped to 36°, and London increased to 40°. Hopefully the worst of it is moving east.

Train back to Manchester cancelled for the second week in a row 🙃

Wtf is up with Northern Ireland’s climate. I swear whenever I see the weather it’s like 12 degrees there, they cursed or something?
