I hope they do, but I can’t believe the Tories will actually go ahead and vote for this hot mess.
 
she had conviction and it made her vaguely impressive. without that there's nothing.
 
Her political journey is bizarre. There she is as a Liberal Democrat in 1994 and not just any Liberal Democrat but a republican to boot.

Just two years later in 1996 she had defected to the Conservatives. Just think about that - an ostensibly anti-monarchist Liberal Democrat defected to the Tories at the almost nadir of that party’s popularity .
 
in all seriousness Rishi has to win this. I'm not convinced by him and I obviously don't want a billionaire PM, but Liz Truss will do two years of awful awful damage to this country that we just can't afford.

on the other hand, he has shown himself willing to abandon any climate action to appease the hard right so I just DON'T KNOW.

I think the same could be said about Sunak to be honest. He will do absolutely nothing for the majority of working people in this country, even when many are on their knees. That was shown time and time again throughout the pandemic when he was forced to backdown at the last minute and provide extensions to furlough and support for businesses.

If Truss is on the hard right of the party, he's not that far off either. He has a terrible record on equality/human rights, education, health, the environment and just about everything else.

Both Sunak and Truss are trying to appeal to the hard right of the party for the sole reason that they believe that this way lies power. At the moment, The Conservatives are a far right party and Labour are a centre right party with a small clutch of vaguely progressive policies that will only be activated if Terry Gammon won't get upset about it. Which he will, because he's a prick.

Basically, they all want the votes of the man who goes for a swim in his wheelie bin on a hot day.

That’s what pisses me off. This country is now only as good as its worst citizens; we shouldn’t be pandering to what is essentially a shallow pool of voters who will never be happy anyway.
 
Literally forever British elections were fought on the centre ground. Now it's on the extreme fringes. Brexit killed off the comfortable middle. Polarisation is really unhealthy for politics and society as a whole.

Nothing revelatory there, but it's always worth remembering where we are. There probably is a case for the good old days, but not how they're mostly presented.
 
It's a poisoned chalice whoever takes over. The economy is bust and has been since 2008. Even worse now and it's only gonna get worse. No leader can deal with inflation AND massive national debt. Sunak probably has the more sensible idea, as instant tax cuts will burden national debt, fuel inflation AND the resulting cuts to services/ benefits have unforseen likely highly traumatic outcomes.

Plus I had a revelation while reading about the state of the economy, that the next two years are probably crucial and a dickhead like In Liz We Truss throwing about tax cuts to please the base, would be an absolute fucking disaster.
 
I'd been blindsighted by PORK MARKETS, DISGRACEFUL CHEESE and her comedy value, much the same way millions were by Boris. I'm aware we were about eight levels of irony deep, but she's a narcissistic Thatcher wannabe who doesn't give two shits about the realities of our ailing economy.

Rishi is obviously a grinning Brexiteer tit, who hates the poor, but at least he seems to have a bigger picture viewpoint.
 
The way they pretty much assassinated PenPen was disgraceful. Not that she’s much better than these two, but it goes to show you how savage they are as a party. Weeks after booting BoJo out they’re giving him a standing ovation as well.

Not saying that labour has a much better recent track record (Corbyn; but I accept that was complicated by the antisemitism scandal). At least Starmer projects some form of integrity and competence; and at this stage as a country that may well be enough for us.

In any case the tories are, in all likelihood (and with a pinch of hope), toast at the next GE.
 
The flipside of Sunak is that he was dragged into allowing the furlough scheme, and protested very hard against lockdowns because of the economy.

He is a man who thinks in excel spreadsheets and profit margins, and I don't think he grasps the human cost of his decisions. We have a crisis looming this winter where a lot of people are going to be plunged into poverty, which could have calamitous knock on effects for the NHS. I think his instinct will be to let people freeze.

Yup. He couldn't give a shit whether you live or die. Truss is too deluded to understand much and is therefore open to manipulation. One way or t'other - enter the Winter Of Discontent 2022 Redux.
