Up to #31 on the Hot 100 and #13 in the UK this week.

The Oh My My album is largely wonderful. Kids, Human and All These Things were the sound track to my Hong Kong trip. All These Things in particular is an absolutely blinding song, gives me the feels.

They've done some good tune scattered across the past decade but that album really stands out for me.

It's wild how they released one of the biggest hits of the last decade ("Counting Stars") and then POOF they were done.

"Kids" is probably one of their best moments. this is good but it's kind of just there. I'm sure it will be on the charts for a year.

They’re an ODD one chartwise. Counting Stars and Apologise aside they didn’t use rule the charts, but they consistently got entries that had ok peaks and hung around for ages, often different songs on each side of the Atlantic.

I guess a lot of their stuff may be a bit samey, but they are certainly more palatable than the likes of Maroon 5 who pedal a similar sort of thing.

Ryan Tedder is an excellent songwriter and has a divine voice which instantly sets One Republic apart from Maroon 5.

And in the UK too. 5 top 10 hits is not to be sniffed at. Love Runs Out also felt like a massive hit here in the UK. I always assumed it was the follow up to Cohnting Stars (wikipedia tells me it wasn't though)

I've always assumed they are an AC/Pop radio STAPLE. I bet if you go have breakfast at an IHOP you'll hear them at least TWICE!

edit: I'm also VERY sure "Good Life" was the theme song for these TV ads featuring antidepressants that have a shitload of awful side effects but the people in the ad are having the time of their lives playing with their dogs or having a picnic

Oh yeah, that’s what I was meaning. They weren’t necessarily huge #1s but they had massive legs and spent a good while in the chart, so their chart history doesn’t fairly reflect the genuine reach of a lot of their songs.
