Coming to "Hulu" next year, and presumably available elsewhere outside the US. Not much information yet, but we have casting for the new Pinhead:

Obviously certain sections of the internet are going to LOVE that, and ignore that the character is described as androgynous with a feminine voice in the original novella :eyes:

Obviously what we all want to know is who's playing JULIA :disco:
 
There is also some sort of Hellraiser project coming from HBO/HBO Max, so hopefully both that one and this film help lift the series out of the direct to video HELL it's been squatting in for years.

Why on earth not, I woudn't mind seeing another take on it. I agree with @COB though, the casting of Julia casting is PIVOTAL :D

Or just bring back Claire Higgins :disco:

I already hate this.

Why can't they remake shit horror films instead of going after the classics? A new Long Time Dead or Chopping Mall I'd be fine with, but a Hellraiser with CGI and snarky millennials is just a bridge too far.
 
Isn’t this an adaptation of the book which the original movie had very little to do with?

Chopping Mall could certainly do with an update. So many new possibilities :D
 
Doug Bradley will always be my favourite Pinhead but I don't mind a woman having a go. The original film hasn't aged well, I was cringing through most of it last time I watched it so I'm looking forward to this. The things they can do nowadays with special effects and CGI, it could do the story justice I think.
 
I'd love for somebody to make a film of The Damnation Game, that's one of my longstanding favourite Clive Barker stories.

I'm assuming this will come to Disney+ in the UK, like Prey did recently.
 
I'm excited for this even if the original is iconic and Julia can never be topped as the perfect flawed camp villain.

Clive Barker's short stories were impeccable, which reminds me we really should have a Rawhead Rex remake. That original story was terrifying

I've never seen any of them. The VHS covers in my local Global Video always freaked me out. I'm totally game for changing this now though.
 
The first two AKA The Ones With Queen Julia In are worth watching, 3 is OKAY but very different (I love it as a slice of camp trash but it's a deeply stupid film), then the rest are varying levels of direct to video rubbish that can safely be ignored.
 
Yeah, 1&2 are iconic. 3&4 are watchable trash.

Everything from 5 onwards is a mess. They were just random unrelated scripts that the studio bought and shoehorned Pinhead into so they could slap the Hellraiser title on them :D
 
That music gives me chills. One of the best film scores ever, just so perfect. Really happy they've kept it to whatever extemt

The trailer looks promising. Probably wise not to retell the same story. Recasting Pinhead is one thing, but trying to replicate Julia? Never :shock: I can't wait though!

Is it not getting a cinema release? You'd think it was big enough to and more importantly, I don't think I have the platforms it's being shown on :evil:
 
Also I can't work out from that interview if Doug Bradley is vexed or totally fine about it, the wording is...interesting. I'm very much here for the new casting but there's no denying he was perfect at it and it must be weird to be replaced after more or less being the face of one of the most iconic horror characters for over 30 years.

I wonder how much he's earned from it all over the years. He seems to have had regular work but on a small scale, I imagine various conventions and things have kept him comfortable.

I love it but I cannot believe how a story THAT GOOD became...well. There's a particular scene where he eats a child ALIVE that always stuck with me.

Books of Blood is so well written, just wall to wall amazing horror stories. The structure of it all is so beautiful, an absolute masterclass.

But that's Volume 1, I don't think I read the others and that must be rectified

This seems to be becoming a bit of a strategy for these horror franchises, after Prey and this we're apparently getting a direct-to-Hulu Alien movie at some point too. If it's what it takes to get new content I'll take it, but I would like to think that if they're successful it would lead to them returning to the cinema for future instalments.
 
I am…whelmed by that trailer, but I trust the director so I will absolutely wait and see.

Pinhead looks great though.

Yeah if it's a new way to keep things funded and movie budgets afloat I'm here for it. Didn't some try the dual strategy of streaming AND a cinema release together. Did Prey do that or have I made that up?
 
I don't think Prey got a theatrical release of any kind, no :( I know that Warner Bros tried a couple of same-day theatrical/HBO Max releases at the height of Covid - Wonder Woman 1984 was one, I think?
 
So this has been released in the US but apparently not in the UK at all? I can't find much about what's going on, but I saw a comment somewhere saying it may not be coming out here until April :goodgrief: I am planning on watching it soon anyway, by hook or by crook.

It's a Hulu exclusive no? I had hoped for a UK Disney+ release but it seems unlikely.
 
I think it's on Disney+ in some Latin American countries, and weirdly Paramount+ in Australia? The whole thing seems so weird.
 
It’s a bit of a cheek considering Hellraiser is a British institution!
