Queen Elizabeth II DEAD

We'd have a Regency. No idea who a modern regent would be. I imagine it would be Royal Perogative and the PM would appoint someone, or maybe it would have to go to parliament proper. I imagine the first person of age in the line of succession would be the obvious candidate but who knows.
Comprehensive regency arrangements are already set out in statute - the Regency Acts. The next adult in the line of succession is automatically Regent.

I'd be really curious if there was some sort of horrendous accident and Harry became King, what he would do. Even if he abdicated immediately it would go to his Son. Who probably couldn't abdicate himself until he came of age. He'd have to get parliament to intervene and surely, at that point, they'd just get rid of the whole thing.
I think, strictly speaking, the Monarch can’t abdicate unilaterally. Edward VIII declared that he was determined to abdicate and asked parliaments to pass a law to give effect. (The same 1936 Act explicitly removed any of the Duke of Windsor’s descendants from the line of succession - albeit none existed).

Interesting. So if Charles and William were both to die before George turned 18, Harry refused to have anything to do with it and Andrew was either patently unsuitable or dead himself, we would have Princess Beatrice as Regent.

Stranger things have happened.

I just watched about three minutes of the live stream from Westminster Hall

I don't feel I understand anything any more

After telling everyone they had to leave the site for 24 hours, they've now back tracked and said people can stay but they're not allowed to leave their accommodation 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well that was a bad choice of words by some customer support person. Was corrected further down.

But yeah they shouldn’t have got into this mess in the first place!

:D at the last two pages of everyone getting riled up over line of succession stuff going past the FIFTH in line as the reason the monarchy's a joke. I mean, I'd probably start with OTHER STUFF first...

(Not to say that in practice Harry probably wouldn't be getting sniffy and refusing to have anything to do with things if he was in a position where The Firm was HIM.)

Oh, it’s fun. Besides, did you not see that documentary about the time when the entire Royal Family was electrocuted and John Goodman became King?

I've played Crusader Kings. A Series of Unfortunate Events can be arranged surprisingly easy (as can fucking your way into conquering Europe :disco: )

The Meghan harassment is utterly hideous. It's remarkable the excuses people will make for Andrew whilst continuing to vilify her based on absolute fiction, weirdo (mostly racist) conspiracy theories and general horseshit.

The Venn diagram of "he hasn't been convicted of anything!" and "look! a slight rumple in her dress! it can only be a microphone pack" appears to be a circle. A very racist circle.

It's simultaneously sinister and hysterical. Sinister because it's perfectly evident what's going on, and hysterical seeing people desperately flailing to pin their hatred on the tiniest little thing rather than admit it.

A former friend of mine once told me that he doesn't hate Meghan because she's black, he hates her because she's a social justice warrior. That's just a different way of saying that you're racist, you prick.

The thing is that I didn’t particularly buy all of the stuff they said in that stupid Oprah interview and thought it was generally in poor taste… and Oprah is hardly a hard-hitting journalist anyway and more of a celebrity sycophant. It was a poor choice. BUT, the ridiculous press bullying they get for utterly stupid reasons makes me sweep all of that under the carpet and defiantly defend them.

Yeah, I didn't buy it either but the hatred directed at her specifically is repulsive.

This is an entirely normal and reasonable response to an old lady dying. :manson:

I love Harry and Meghan. I've had many arguments with friends because of their hatred towards them.

This. I don’t think I particularly like Meghan as a person, but I’d say the same about most celebrities. She gets my full sympathy, though, for the way she’s been treated and the absolutely inescapable negative commentary that surrounds everything she does.

I definitely think the Oprah interview was a miss-step, but other than that I don’t think she comes across as a bad person. Her Father and sister consistently selling stories on her to make a quick buck is disgusting, and the media narrative on her not reaching out to her Father whenever he has a health episode is incredibly unfair in my opinion. The fact she is very close to her Mother, who has not said anything throughout the whole media circus speaks volumes to me. The other thing that grates on me is that anytime she does come across well is because she is a “great actress”. :goodgrief:

I don’t blame Harry from stepping back from The Royal Family due to the general hatred of Meghan. How could he possibly carry on when the woman he loves, and the mother of his children gets absolutely vilified by the UK media, which in turn has turned the majority of the UK against her.

We don’t know enough about the William and Harry relationship in order for me to form an opinion. If William turned his back on his brother after everything that went on simply because he stepped away from “The Firm” then I have no time for him either, but we don’t know what went on behind the scenes and I suppose we never will.

This narrative that she dragged him away from his family really pisses me off and makes him sound like a gullible sap with nobody looking out for him. He’s the son of the fucking King of England, so I find that somewhat hard to believe.

It’s infinitely more likely that he loves his wife and did what he could to remove her from the line of fire. Any decent spouse would do the same if their partner was being bullied, surely?

This 'love' for him that people had seems to have been based on him being a feeble weakling, totally emasculated by a voracious predator, subject to her every whim and incapable of standing up for or making a decision for himself. Yeah, you must think really highly of him.

That these are people who still wank over Diana, when it seems perfectly obvious to me that Diana would have been the first in line to advise him to run far and fast for the sake of love and protecting his family baffles belief.
