When are you switching your heating on?

I was reading about the German reliance on fuel from Russia and how other countries aren't as reliant, for reasons. Looks like an uphill challenge, even without the problems we're having.

The most astonishing part was that Trump kinda predicted it. I have to wonder if he knew what was coming.
 
I think our very own @lolly has several cardigans for those that are feeling the freeze thus far.

Our heating still isn't on.

Tempted to buy an Oodie and see if we can hold on until Christmas 🎄

Does switching it on for a few minutes save energy or is it just because you just want to slightly heat the place?

Why do you say only? It's a lot better, that's what we have here. We have a boiler (or whatever you call it) for the whole block, 100 flats. This year I'm in charge of negotiating the price of the fuel for the forthcoming year. It should have been done in may/june, but it's been postponed month after month due to the actual situation. It's going to be a fortune so there goes much of our savings.

The latter. It’s quite good heating and gets warm quick. I don’t leave it on all evening even in winter

But my apartment gets no natural sunlight so it struggles in the winter. Great in the summer though, it’s lovely and cool
 
In all fairness I have a t shirt, hoodie and housecoat on with a blanket on and the heating on full pelt and we are still only in October. I am a very cold tattie as they say in these parts.
 
Are we better keeping the heating on low all day or switching it on as and when? What is more energy efficient?

Yes, it’s a lot better. I didn’t mean it as something negative.
 
Mad thinking a month or so ago I was in the garden with my bikini on. The leaves don’t seem to have quite changed here yet though and the trees are still plentiful.

Yep, we have the entire Nordstream gas situation to name one example. It torpedoed prices in summer, slightly relaxing right now but they'll soar again during October.

It's going to be another difficult winter, tho for different reasons than the last two. But at least no one is making cuts affecting those struggling to make ends meet in the first place, I hope it stays that way.
 
We only have a couple of oil filled radiators as our central heating is shit. But they haven't gone on yet. Neither has the electric blanket.
Mandy said we need to get thicker pyjamas and a bigger duvet first :(
 
After WW2 we got the NHS.

After Covid we got fucked. #VoteLabour
 
As is probably very unsurprising to most I don’t have a clue how to work my heating system. I got a new heating system last Summer anticipating on selling up this year but that didn’t work out and I still don’t know how to set the times on it so I just turn it on when we need it. It is apparently compatible with my phone but I still just use the remote control panel.
 
I'm never cold at night. We have a lovely warm bed and if it's really chilly a hot water bottle can join me in my slumber.

I'm dreading setting the times again. Such a faff.
 
I quite like being a little cold at night anyway.

Last year I purposely changed the thermostat to go off about an hour earlier as it forced me to go to bed when it got a little too cold downstairs.

For an impatient bitch like myself this frustrates and means little to me. Getting absolutely pummelled by a Tory government RIGHT NOW and for probably the next few years it annoys me that people get excited by polls rather than the here and now.

So yes as great as hope is, it really means fuck all for the next 2 years and beyond whilst IF Labour manage to get in how long they will be cleaning up this almighty mess. Sorry but hope means very little right now.

I do try to donate to the food bank whenever I can. I'm very aware there's always someone worse off.

The contrast for me is that I love a cold bedroom to go in to bed and cosy up although I wrap up all day to avoid the cold.
 
Bought this and it’s brilliant so far. Not even close to needing to switch on the heating. Price seems to have gone up by £10 since I got it 2 weeks ago:
