Given the way that satellite channels are churning out reality shows, I'm sure a revival isn't completely out of the question!
 
i watched the american version once (is that what you're talking about?). In terms of confusion it was on about the same level as 321. :confused:

"Did YOU spot the clues? That's right! The answer was in the opening credits in tiny writing written upside down in gujerati"

They did two series didn't they?? I can only vaguely remember it but I remember us all watching it and loving it

I have The Mole and Celebrity Mole on DVD. I fucking LOVE it. The American series weren't as good as ours however. The season 2 finale in the baseball stadium was ORGASMIC. :disco:

I have a soft spot for the American host Anderson Cooper.

I downloaded the Australian verion of The Mole a while back, not much cop I have to say.
 
After 14 years, the US version is back. On Netflix.

Not sure what to make of it so far, I only have dim memories of the C5 series.

One of my favourite ever TV shows. Maybe this is enough to make me resume my Netflix subscription.
 
Would RECOMMEND! The tasks are fun and the twists are great, thanks to a cast that's messy in the best kind of way.
 
And there is a MAJOR QOL in the bunch

For some reason this is back in Swedish ”television” too, on a streaming service I don’t have. (I mean a Swedish production)

I do remember it was a very good show. If there’s an American version on Netflix then I’d consider activating my Netflix account again.

Yep it's an American version. 10 episodes, 8 of which are available now with the remaining 2 on Friday

I never watched it before so I'm not sure what the differences in the format are but it can't be that much of a departure

Watched the first episode. It's fine, you'd enjoy more if you never watched this before, I guess. I inmediately suspect of the blonde guy that "by coincidence" found the note and doubled the money, making him instantly loved. That's very suspicious.
 
I’m on episode 4, I find it hard to get invested in the tasks when I know there’s a liar. But I like the drama, the 25k bet blew my mind.
 
I've watched a lot of competitive reality TV over the years (including lots of seasons of the Mole, UK, US, Australia)... but there's something really odd and fishy about this particular season. Like... in reality TV, players talk over each other all the time (because that's how people talk in real life), but in this Netflix version every 'shock' is greeted by everyone responding in turn ... like when it's their line and turn to speak - as if they're in a script. It's really odd.

I'd like to think that it's not that they've ruined the integrity of the game and they are actually playing it for real and perhaps they're just re-filming certain moments for clarity. With some of the stuff that has happened (particularly the person who did what they did at the beginning of Episode 4) I would have expected much stronger and more explosive reactions than we actually got.

I'll probably carry on with it now I'm on Episode 4 and finish this season, but it really needs some of the glossy edge taken off of it if they do another season. (Though it seems this has been really successful so why would they listen to me? :D )
 
Watched to the end to get it done and I did guess the Mole correctly (but only from the final 4) but yeah not sold on the editing at all. Just wish it didn’t seem so rehearsed.

I don’t remember much about the original mole, but I couldn’t stop myself doubting whether the gameplay mechanics worked. It felt a bit like the unresolved flaws with the Circle.

I wish they gave some clear incentive to the Mole to do their best to (a) sabotage things and (b) not to be detected - and they told the audience about it too. (Perhaps saying the mole gets a percentage of the money lost, but gets less money if they are fingered by many others in the quiz).

The biggest flaw was the way everyone kept acting like the mole to destroy everyone else’s chances of doing well in the quiz. Of course it is the rational thing to do, but did that behaviour feature so heavily in the original? I feel like they need a bigger disincentive.

In the end, we ended up with a mole who didn’t care about looking like a mole, and other contestants who actively wanted to look like a mole. What was the audience meant to do?
 
It just felt entirely rehearsed - every line. For a 'reality TV show' that felt odd - more in the realm of 'Made In Chelsea' and 'TOWIE' which just doesn't suit competitive reality.
 
I think the rehearsed thing is because everyone is now an expert in reality tv. There’s a generation that grew on it.

I found it hard to get into because there were no clues about the mole that we could discern because they didn’t want you to know so it made everything feel like it didn’t matter.
 
I ended up fast forwarding through a lot of it because it’s just so much repetition.

I really don't think so - you don't get it in most competitive reality TV shows. It's the way not a single person ever speaks over anyone - you can tell that certain scenes have been shot multiple times to get 'better reactions' or whatever. I don't think the integrity of the actual GAME is in question, but I think there's clear direction happening in the voiceovers, confessionals and probably refilming of elements. It's overproduced and would be so much better if it wasn't like that.
 
I started watching this yesterday and I’m already seen about five episodes. It’s so addictive and exciting, I can’t wait to watch the rest today.

I agree with @cwej it’s a bit weird how well behaved they seem sometimes and how little they question each other’s behaviours; for instance when Avori just dropped that gas tube like it’s nothing and everyone just took notice of it and then nothing…
 
Finally watched this and enjoyed it less than some of the old ones. I couldn't care less about the twists when so many of them were overplaying trying to look like the mole, which I understand as a strategy but it was just too much and really tiresome. Some of them were more bots than players. The end was a bit of a letdown, I remember in some old edition (maybe from The Netherlands?) were they explained how the Mole left some (very subtle) hints and how it wasn't just random sabotages, the Mole here didn't seem to have a real motivation. I guess if this is your first one you'll enjoy it a lot more, but not the best I've seen at all. I think the idea of the format is good, but once you've watched a couple of them it's nothing special, at least for me. Oh well!

Finished this yesterday and I agree with this; it was very frustrating how many of the players kept acting as if they were the mole. It basically ended up as everyone being the mole but the one who won who was the only one determined to do well in the challenges.

I loved Avori she was my favourite but was a bit frustrated by her towards the end.
 
But on all that, I really felt I didn't get to know the characters much at all. Maybe I've been too spoiled by X Factor Sob Stories over the years. I just didn't understand what their 'characters' were supposed to be. I love the Mole as a concept, but this was just quite a badly done series.
