It's already breaking records :o

CLOCKIN' AFTER MIDNIGHTS: IS TAY ABOUT TO BREAK SOME RECORDS?

"We have only overnight numbers to pore over, but having hauled out the ol’ abacus, we believe Taylor Swift’s brand-new Republic release, Midnights, may well be on the way to breaking at least two key first-week records: Adele’s post-bundling-era bow of 839k for 30 and Harry Styles’ 182k in vinyl sales for Harry’s House (that set’s first-week total activity was 521k, giving him the biggest debut of 2022 so far).

We’re still counting on our fingers and toes, but we’re pretty sure Tay can blow past these benchmarks on her way to a stunning first-week total. We’re not quite ready to predict what that number will be, but for now, just set up your Midnights souvenir clock; we’ll keep you posted."

The margin between "Anti-Hero" and "Lavender Haze" isn't as big as I assumed. I imagine the former will be a lock for Hot 100 #1, but will be interesting what she releases as the second video this week. "Anti-Hero" also debuted at #33 on pop radio so that seems to be getting the official push.

fuck. I'm so shook that the streaming numbers and first week sales are so big. the promo felt so low-key!

1.1m is huge in 2022. I wonder how many will be pure sales? 500k+?

I think the lack of lead single thing helped increase streams somehow. So much hype but we weren’t being fed until we were.

I think it's probably mostly down to the fact that Folklore and Evermore brought her a new fanbase in addition to her (obviously massive) established core.

Personally, I would never have been a first day listener for a new Taylor album before those two, but I really liked them so I gave this one a curiosity spin a well.

regarding the physicals

and this is US only! insane. poor every other artist who got pushed down the queue by Taylor printing HALF A MILLION VINYL.

I've calmed down about the bonus tracks thing but not really. I don't know whether to hold off for a reissue that might never come or just suck up the fact that it's 2022 and open my purse.

it did 800k pure sales in the first 24 hours. :D

@VoR is right on the money with folklore/evermore bringing new crowds of fans. she has been consistently expanding since folklore:

Lover 54m
folklore/lover: 80m/70m
Red TV: 90m
Midnights: 185m

and seeing how the bonus tracks were released 4 hours later and eventually "hidden" in Spotify and got less than half of the plays, she could have definitely hit 200m.

HD raised their prediction to 1.4-1.6 million first week in the US.

and the album did 99m on its second day on Spotify.

at this point she has commercially surpassed Madonna. :o

Early Hot 100 predictions for next week have her taking nine of the top ten slots.

The fact that we are going to get a Taylor-Lana-Sam Smith-Kim Petras top ten :D

However, it is possible "Bejeweled" getting a video debut will push it into the top ten, kicking Sam/Kim out for an all Taylor top ten...

is this why she's releasing that video? I hope so

I think it was always planned that a second video was going to be released this week. Not sure if she selectively released "Bejeweled" for this reason, or how many videos were filmed.

Anti-Hero just might be her first actual hit since IDWLF. it's rising all over Europe.

Kind of off-topic but does @Jark have any info on the vinyl singles shart? I'd like to know where the 'Erotica' picture disc is

Great to see.

To be fair, while her last few hits have been front loaded, that makes complete sense given the size of her fan base post 1989, so I’d say Look What You Made Me Do, Me, Calm Down and Cardigan were all genuine hits in between.

That’s not official chart placings. We’ll know next Monday

I'd say "Delicate" was arguably bigger than all of those except LWYMMD in terms of overall impact. At least it felt that way.

I think Calm Down was a genuine smash and had a much bigger impact (on the GP) than Delicate. but Delicate is def her best loved single from rep or Lover.

just to fathom how massive Midnights is on Spotify:

Day 1: 184,695,609
Day 2: 117,339,594 (-36%)
Day 3: 99,193,664 (-15%)
Day 4: 106,496,227 (7.4%)
Day 5: 96,591,862 (-9.36%)

other girls' day 1:

30 – 60.7m
positions 58.7m
Chromatica 48.3m
Renaissance - 43.25m
Happier than Ever - 35.5m
Smile - 7.8m

It’s a total fan fave and did well in the US with a long run from memory? Don’t know if it crossed over to that many other markets though unlike the other three that did have great peaks in most (of her main markets).

It's by far her longest charting hit from Reputation onward. Its streams are about on par with YNTCD, LWYMMD and ME! though, which are all in the 600-800m range.

"Delicate" - 35 weeks
"You Need to Calm Down" - 21 weeks
"ME!" - 20 weeks
"Willow" - 20 weeks
"Look What You Made Me Do" - 20 weeks
"Ready for It?" - 20 weeks
"All Too Well" (Taylor's Version) - 15 weeks
"Cardigan" - 14 weeks
"End Game" - 14 weeks
"Lover" - 10 weeks
"The Man" - 8 weeks

HITS' early projections have it at nearly 1.5m SPS, and over 1m pure sales, although I think it will trend higher with final numbers. Carly in top twenty isn't a bad result either.
