A Friendly Friday

I'm off to buy an expensive bottle of gin as a 40th/ engagement gift for my best mate, who has expensive taste. Yet somehow I would never consider said purchase for myself.

Watching the live sentencing of that woman who chopped her friends head off. More voyeuristic court stuff please.

NOT DEAD YET LOVES!

I’m super woozy. Shoulder pain after having my diaphragm is real. Struggling to get full chest inflation and breathe properly but that’s normal. I’ve drink water and refluxed it too- all came back up- and I’m still burping a fair bit. Hope that’s just everything settling down but I’ll check with the surgeon when he comes around.

Love that they tried to offer me a sandwich when I came around until I told them that I wasn’t supposed to eat solid food :D :manson:

I know climate change will kill us all but its fucking boiling in my back garden and its amazing

Actually had quite a fun day at the office - we had everyone in today rather than 70% working from home and we had a good laugh comparing our most loonball punters.

How long are you on just water?

Today. And even then because no one seemed to know what to do at the hospital. On the leaflet I've been given it doesn't say, the surgeon said "clear liquids" and when I asked the nurse if clear liquids included things like broth, she said she wasn't sure, so just have water today. Confusingly, said liquid has a list of clear liquids, most of which aren't- including "ice cream but melt it in your mouth before swallowing" :D The leaflet contradicts a few things my doctor explicitly told me (for example, I have to follow a 4 stage recovery diet, with the first 3 stages lasting 2 weeks each- the leaflet says the first one only lasts a week...)

To be fair, I'm a big NHS defender but the whole recovery was fairly shite in many ways. Twice they came round and offered me food and were confused when I told them I couldn't have it before realising, they tried to get me to leave way earlier than I had been told and then someone said "Oh no, you're the acid reflux, aren't you? WHOOPS!" before telling me to stay put, I felt cajoled into getting out of bed and into the recovery room into a chair when I was still so spinny ( guess it's just they need the beds, but still), literally got six holes in my stomach and was told I'd have to bend down to tie my own shoelaces even though the leaflet says not to bend or lift and, finally, with absolute excrutiating pain post- surgery, I asked if I could get something, they took an hour to bring it and then it was a fucking ibuprofen. "Carol, that ain't gonna touch the sides, can you get me something better please, love?" with a wink didn't go down well either... :D :(

And though it was difficult to get it down, this effervescent cocodamol is a RIGHT TREAT! I'm going to save a couple to have with a glass of champagne when all this is over!

And if anyone wants to see my wounds (they’re not super grim, don’t worry), here you go! They’ve just used this weird glue, so they’re not even stitched. Very odd!

Excuse the belly- I’d like to say it’s because they bloated me and I’m still swollen, but nah, I’m just fat.

@Sheena Mr F's done the clear-liquids loads of times. Clear liquids are things like tea or coffee without milk (although coffee won't do you any favours I don't think), water, diluted squash and chicken noodle soup if you don't eat the noodles or any broth-type soup if you don't eat the lumps, just the liquid. You should avoid milk. It's basically things that aren't going to put any strain or your digestive system and that will go straight through without hanging around in intestines.

Hope you feel much better soon xxx

Thanks love. I can start a proper liquid diet tomorrow anyway, so will just play safe and not eat today. I'm mentally hungry but not physically, so think I can cope til the morning.

Thankfully I don't drink coffee anyway or really milk. I found it weird ice cream was listed, as I said...it's rather poorly done!

I remember after giving birth, again I'm a big fan of the NHS but the midwives were asking me why I hadn't changed into my own nightie when I had a catheter in, was half numb from surgery and literally couldn't move! They hadn't allowed Mr Star to stay so I was on my own with a baby that I didn't really have a clue what to do with.

Sometimes I think it's really easy when you do a job for it to become routine and to forget what it's like to be on the other side. I really try at work not to be like that though.

Fuck being pregnant- can't believe how scary that would be.

I also wonder in my situation if the surgery is fairly rare and they were treating me just like other day surgery patients. Most of the guys in the male waiting room were having their tonsils out- surely you're only under for 20 minutes or something for that, so it's nothing like the two hours of anaesthetic that I'd had.

When I was on clear liquids after having my fanny installed, I was brought consommé and raised a laugh when I suggested it was watered down gravy with an attitude problem. I was still off my tits on the morphine, mind you.

Now, MY FRIEND ANNA (hmm, that's a good book title) has somehow PROCURED some liquid morphine she's keeping for if we have a zombie apocalpyse and just wants to end it all. I was tempted to get a few VIALS round and have a go :disco:

@Sheena I'm glad you're still alive and all that. But I actually came here to say, think of the weight loss you should achieve from this! Every cloud and all that.

Oh babe, it’s not gone unaware!

On average, average people lose between 10lb and a stone.

Well, I’m not average and I’m aiming for two :disco:

:D amazing. Good luck! I always try to find the silver lining in bad events and mine is always "well at least I lost 6lbs"

ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY! Mr Sheena earlier on was talking about getting me ice cream when I'm able to eat it.

No thank you, I will have spinach smoothies and beetroot juice, thank you very much.

OT: Someone just reminded me of this as it will be me trying to eat solid food for Christmas Dinner :D
