I don't understand the whole dentist system. With us if you're receiving help from the government you're entitled to help with us. I don't get why dentists have limits and it's just luck. Like someone super rich could find an NHS dentist whereas someone else has to go private and pay ridiculous amounts.

Please don't worry! I have always been absolutely terrified of dentists. I've had a lot of very painful fillings and I then avoided going for years.Oh this is good to know! I'm on the verge of one if this £250 filling doesn't work. The thought is keeping me awake at night tbh
I then broke a tooth and was in so much pain I had to have root canal.
It's usually done in 2 appointments. The first one they inject to numb you, drill to clean it all out and take the root out. Then they put a temp filling in. You wont feel a thing. Even when the anaesthetic wore off I wasn't in pain.
Next appt is longer, about an hour, they will use a block injection to numb you which basically just feels like a small prick. Then they take the temp filling out and use lots of fancy tools to finish the root canal. But remember there's no nerve by this point so the tooth is basically dead, so no pain.
Unless you have a really shitty dentist, you won't feel a thing. The worst part is the injections but even they don't hurt much.

That's a band 3, so usually about £250-300. At least it was when I worked at a dentist.

What's really odd, at least on the island, is a lot of our dentists are also NHS dentists. So you are literally getting the same treatment but having to pay more. I believe NHS have a quota to fill for NHS patients, once that's done they take on private cos it makes them more money and the NHS don't have to pay for the treatment.Ah, I think I am looking at £1800 with a crown then

My NHS dentist went private earlier this year. Third time that has happened to me, and the remaining NHS dentists have a three year waiting list.

Maybe because everyone gets their teeth checked from when they're very young, usually on a regular basis. So the places get full. People generally don't get their eyes tested unless there's an issue

I hope so, I’m having a bridge done but the NHS won’t cover it as it’s cosmetic, but the same dentist will do it privately, I think the crown comes under essential treatment though.
