in an NYT prediction piece I'm reading, a columnist predicts "six more years" for Ron Johnson in Wisconsin's Senate race. I feel really confused.

terms are 6 years for Senators. Warnock was elected in a special election, because Johnny Isaakson died 4 years into his 6 year term. It depends on the state, but in Georgia that triggers an election to finish the term. Ossoff was running in a normal election, so he's not up again until 2026
 
Wikipedia says that the guy resigned for health reasons on 31 December 2021. I guess having been dead for 12 days IS a health reason.

he resigned at the end of 2019 :D
 
My State is giving us election day off for voting. My school is gonna be a voting station I think.
 
My optimism from this morning has switched to despair and dread
 
Democrats holding the Senate and then clinging-to-life seditionist Clarence Thomas keeling over sometime next year is the most plausible scenario where at least one thing doesn't get worse.
 
The number of election denialists running, and potentially WINNING, is just frightening. Whenever they're interviewed they won't even acknowledge that they MIGHT LOSE. Babies.

Also, fuck Kari Lake and that fakeass smile.

Last election night/week I became particularly obsessed with the dramatic way the CNN voiceover pronounced Christiane Amanpour's surname as though it was a spell in Harry Potter or something.

Would still expect early and mail-in to lean Democratic most places (enter the army of Republican lawyers with the sole aim of getting mail-in ballots tossed in the trash).

Election officials in Georgia’s largest county removed two workers from a polling site on the morning of Tuesday’s midterm races after their colleagues shared social media posts of the pair at the US Capitol attack on 6 January 2021.

Fulton county elections officials told media outlets that they fired the workers – a mother and her son – about 15 minutes before the polls opened Tuesday morning. They had been assigned to a polling site at a library in the community of Johns Creek.

The mother and son fell under scrutiny after the woman made a comment that caught the attention of a colleague while they were at an event for poll workers, Fulton county’s interim elections director, Nadine Williams, told the local news station WSB-TV. Colleagues of the woman also found social media posts by her which were reported to the county, WSB-TV added.

Williams would not elaborate on the nature of the posts. But the Washington Post reported that it was provided with copies of the social media screeds in question, and they showed the woman’s family forming part of the mob of Donald Trump supporters who staged the Capitol attack.

According to the newspaper, one of the posts read: “I stood up for what’s right today in Washington DC. This election was a sham. [Trump vice-president] Mike Pence is a traitor. I was tear gassed FOUR times. I have pepper spray in my throat. I stormed the Capitol building. And my children have had the best learning experience of their lives.”

First two senate seats called.

Democrat Peter Welch wins in Vermont
Republican Tim Scott wins in South Carolina

Neither were considered competitive, hence the early projections.
