Pop memories of 2003

Clearly the highlight was the release of Dannii’s electropop opus ‘Neon Nights’ and her continued run of top 10 singles from the era.

Damn I loved Sophie EB's career. My PARENTS still hum her tunes :D

Oh Neon Nights by Danniiiiiii is a definite, as is Phixx’s debut with its cockteasing video.

And yes to Automatic and S Club 8.

A week tomorrow in Dalston if anyone is interested!

Poor forgotten ROCKIN' ON HEAVEN'S FLOOR :(

These are albums I bought and played tons at the time. Obviously I learned of Kylie, Dannii, Holly's masterpieces later. J-Lo, Avril and Christina were others I played a lot in '03 but technically were 2002 albums.

I think my big story of '03 was feeling like Dannii was on the edge of a major commercial breakthrough. during promo for I Begin to Wonder it felt like she was not just everywhere, but also... cool.

there were several comeback singles that seemed to seriously underperform - Trouble by P!nk sunk in at #7 which shocked me then. the video had been inescapable.

and obviously the feeling that Kylie had once again SAVED POP with Slow.

That's revisionism at best. Slow was actually not that well received. One of the lowest sales for a number one at that point, radio didn't quite know what to do with it, it tanked in America, where it was actually hoped to launch her into the stratosphere, and it sank Body Language from a point of no recovery, really.

Of course, hindsight has shown it was actually just ahead of its time :disco:

I'm talking about my own personal feelings about the song? :D I can assure you it was received with an open hole chez Jark.

I don’t think pop needed saving in 2003, the final quarter at least. Britney, Kylie, Sophie, Sugababes and Holly all releasing fantastic albums along with bangers from LSL, Jamelia, Rachel, Bunton, Girls Aloud, Stacie, Phixx etc. Even the shitter stuff like Atomic Kitten, Louise and Liberty X was passable.

Poor homewrecker Javine, so utterly forgotten not even mentioned in the shitter stuff category :(
