It could have been worse, one of the other candidates was #IStandWith and absolute fuck accepting that as a 'word'.
 
Merriam-Webster have gone for gaslighting as word of the year, just for those who prefer US English.

I know it's a real thing, and a really terrible way to behave towards somebody but I would file gaslighting with toxic and problematic as pop psychology babble that has been overused (and misused more often than not) on the Internet to the point of meaninglessness.

Certainly by the time it hits a dictionary, you can bet its been misused to the point of redundancy in a lot of cases.

Narcissism is very much another one.
 
I still don’t really understand the meaning of gaslighting because people seem to use it for different purposes and I cringe whenever I hear it in Swedish too.
