My boiler has broken down too, I have had no heating or hot water since yesterday lunchtinme. It's in the loft so the condensate pipe is quite long. I have tried to defrost it but it hasn't worked. I have a man coming out at 4.30pm so hopefully he can fix it. In the meantime I went out and bought an electric heater to give some respite.

I woke up at 4.30am this morning, needed the toilet, and wondered why the radiators were on full blast. That's because it was -10 c, luckily by the time I had to defrost the car and go to work it had warmed up to a toasty -7 c. I'm wearing thermal longjohns under my pants, a jumper and a chunky cardigan and it's still chilly in this office.
