Friday arrested in Romania

Still in bed. So far I've had a bowl of porridge with fudge crumbs, and some Aldi bacon fries.

This weather is not making me want to get up.
 
Fudge crumbs in porridge sounds like absolute heaven, won't lie.
 
I'm heading back up north today. I've got so much to do when I get back that it really doesn't bear thinking about. STRESS.
 
I'm possibly drinking tonight instead of tomorrow and I'm ok with that.

Looking forward to being back in my LONDON BIN actually after an astonishing 10 days at my parents. If I make it back that is. Don’t actually have New Years plans as everyone is out of town, but I’ve not been out for NYE in 4/5 years so not overly bothered.
 
Good morning! I had a night on my own for the first time in about a week (the bf was here for Christmas and was unwell so needed a bit of looking after)... somehow managed to start fixating on something just before bedtime and ended up lying awake all night, with occasional dozing off punctuated by the cat jumping onto my chest multiple times. Feeling great :eyes:

I can rarely calm my thoughts when my head hits the pillow. A Bluetooth eye mask/headphones with a mildly diverting podcast has been the best thing for me. Outside of diazepam or zopiclone, anyway.

We haven't booked anything, apart from a week at a lodge in 2 weeks time on the island. Which I know sounds weird to holiday where I live but it was cheap, and it means we're nearby if heathcliff gets poorly. And it's also beautiful.

But in April we're booking a week in a lodge (same company as the island) at Mullion Cove in Cornwall, it looks amazing.

Then September we're looking at going back to Brecon in Wales 😍

Mullion is beautiful. Well, the whole Lizard peninsula is. Kynance Cove is probably my favourite place in the whole of Cornwall, if not the country.

There are some gorgeous walks around the Helford river, Helford Passage and particularly Fisherman's Creek as well, which you'll be very close to. I'm quite jealous thinking about it.

I'm looking at a few days in South Devon in February.

We have done mullion and the lizard before and I remember thinking how beautiful it was. Lots of nice walks. The lodge is literally 2 minutes from the coastal path as well.

Are you still thinking of moving to the coast?

We never do South Devon for some reason, always north.

Yes, it's still the plan.

I love both Devon coasts although they are quite different, but going to the north last year reminded me of how much more remote it is, even if you do drive. The proximity to the motorway, rail network, Exeter (and to a lesser extent Plymouth) means the south coast edges it for me as a place to live, at least.

Yeah I totally get that. We've said as much as we love the north coast and Cornwall, it's far to remote to live there.

Are you not a fan of overseas holidays? We've only done UK holidays the last 5 years, but everyone else seem to forever be travelling abroad and I wonder if the kids are missing out. I don't think they are, a beach is a beach really at this age, at least we don't have endless hours traveling!

Oh I love an overseas holiday. We've done plenty.

But we recently discovered cruising and fell in love with it over flying, then covid happened and cruising hasn't got back to normal yet.

Plus if I go abroad I want to go for at least ten days and while we have heathcliff, 7 days is the maximum we can leave him. So it's UK holidays for the next year or so. Then we can start going abroad again.

I don't think your kids are missing out at all, so don't worry about that! Kids don't really appreciate beautiful scenery, architecture, history, nature etc that you might want from a foreign holiday. They want the beach, they want to run around playing, some want a holiday park with entertainment. And you can get all of that in the UK.

I didn't go abroad until I was 19 years old. I never felt I was missing out.

I guess the main thing I see kids abroad loving is the water parks, which you don't get the same here. But that's about it.
 
Actually @Star , the lady that works in our shop has a 6 year old son. He had never been abroad, so they took him to Spain this year.
He hated it, hated the heat and spent the whole time in the pool. So she said she won't take him again until he's much older.
 
Wherever we end up at the moment, ultimately if they find a slide and a swing, they're happy!

We've got a week in Nottinghamshire booked for next summer.

I feel the same, for the costs involved they need to be able to appreciate it. But it just feels like we're the only people who do that. Every school holiday people are jetting off to places like Mauritius, Dubai etc! Dannii doesn't even have a passport yet.

But what enjoyment are those kids actually getting from Dubai? Or Mauritius? Apart from a beach. They're purely going for the adults enjoyment in my opinion.

I can see why parents take their kids to Euro Disney, as I'm sure kids love it. But that's about it.

Like you said, if yours find a swing they're happy and why spend thousands on a holiday abroad when you can get a swing in the UK for a few hundred.
