I had it just before Christmas and it was HORRIBLE. Luckily I got better by Christmas Eve. I think because I got antibiotics in time (they're just throwing them out now because there's nobody to treat people) it didn't turn into the long term cough thing.

I never get coughs :oi:

Apparently it's NOT covid just part of this expected new flu wave, but it felt very similar. My sense of smell went doolally.
 
I ask because it seems to be hitting everyone. The hospitals are overrun but the media not talking about it, but probably because it doesn't appear to be killing as many people thankfully...
 
Despite spending Christmas in an actual plague pit with my parents hacking and shivering like Dickensian orphans, no.

I did get a flu jab in November though so maybe that's been my saving grace. We'll see when my pub quiz re-starts on Monday and I have to host a room full of filthy students. :zombie:
 
Don't. It's been the most disgusting year. Last spring I was ill for about ten weeks with a chest infection and then absolute exhaustion. Then in September and November I had seperate chest infections. Then in December I had Covid.

Now I'm absolutely SHATTERED. This has been the recurring theme was all of them, absolute exhaustion. It's so debilitating.
 
I've had ALL MY JABS, so that's done nothing. Besides a flu jab won't stop you getting a chest infection.

Obviously I work with dirty teenagers, so it's probably inevitable.

My doctor said my chest infection last spring was probably pneumonia and that has made me vulnerable to MORE CHEST INFECTIONS.

Fucking hell that's worse than me. I had some weird flu virus at the start of December, got better, then got the chest infection. Everyone said it was the same thing but I was convinced it wasn't, I was just unlucky this year, and the doctor confirmed that I probably did just get two different bugs one after the other because this year there's more than ever.

Apparently there was an influenza outbreak in the middle east in November as well which is LOVELY because then everyone descended for the World Cup, and that has now spread around the world. I only know because some doctors are asking people where they've travelled recently, and when I said I was in Dubai in November, they mentioned it.

FUN TIMES.
 
Oh yes I felt terrible, and I'd just had a different flu bug a few weeks previously so I spent the end of December in a right state. I felt better briefly after Christmas and then it came back with a vengeance. My immune system must have gone on strike :( I've ALMOST stopped coughing now. Knock on wood.
 
I think I've been coughing since September. But it's gotten better the last few weeks and I never felt awful.
 
Pneumonia, covid, chest infections. That I'm still alive and working is a fucking miracle.
 
I’ve had it for about 3 weeks now, the cough is worst at night but the other symptoms like fatigue, heavy muscles, sore throat aren’t as bad finally this last couple of days. I’ve had covid and flu jabs.
 
No not yet, but apparently we’re extra vulnerable now that we haven’t been exposed to enough germs since the pandemic so we’re about to get hit hard. (I thought they said the same last year?)

Everyone has been poorly in the UK this winter. Even the people who never get poorly.

Spawn had it a few weeks ago but it was just like a cold then gave it to her husband the week before Christmas, he was bedridden with it. He's feeling much better now but still can't get through a sentence without sounding like he's trying to cough a lung up.

They've both been working from home and didn't know anybody else that had it so spawn's assuming hers was much less because she'd had a flu jab in October.
 
I’ve had the FLU, the stomach bug just before Christmas and then some phlegmy cough over Christmas/New Year :argh:
 
My sister was convinced my mom had it during the vacation cause she was coughing but I only got a runny nose type cold after spending 5 days with them.

The flight back was like a plague plane with coughing from every row.
 
Barked like an asthmatic labrador for a few days, it mostly wore off but would start again when I lay down i.e. to try an sleep which was bloody annoying for a week or so. Lingered in occasional blurts and flarts for about a fortnight after that.

Didn't like it at all.
 
Do you have flu vaccine? I know it's not 100% effective, but i get it every year and i can't remember the last time i had flu, decades surely.
 
I was feeling a little run down NYE but put it down to drinking loads, nothing a few painkillers couldnt mask. Then I got food poisoning, and travelled home the morning after, and I think that combo meant the lurgy got chance to take hold.

Better now, more or less, I was bringing some ungodly shit off my chest earlier this week. I know people who had it for weeks.
 
I’ve had a cold since Boxing Day and I feel fucking rank still. Exhausted and mostly just full of so much fucking snot. I’ve never been so congested before, it’s constant.
 
The snot really is something else. I felt like I was head to toe in mucus at one point.
 
No, I had a rough cold back in October and only a very mild head cold over Christmas.

I intend to leave it at that for the rest of this winter. :evil:
 
Oh Mr Star had this leading up to Xmas. He lost hearing in one ear from the constant nose blowing, it's still not back to normal yet.

Wasn’t from nose blowing but I lost my hearing during lockdown in one ear and it took weeks to come back (which was freaky) but returned with added tinnitus. So annoying.
 
I escaped covid until last May, and although I was only unwell enough to be off work for a couple of days, the exhaustion was the lingering feature of it.

Then I was unwell about 2 weeks before Christmas and was coughing up crap for a few days, but thankfully it fucked off pretty quickly. Perhaps that was due to having the flu and covid vaccs in Oct/Nov.
 
I have it right now, I think. It’s quite tiring. Strangely, as far as I am aware, I still haven’t had covid.
