Yeah, and it’s completely horrid to watch.well, her world is cold, calculated, no room for any spontaneity in her rarefied orbit. the film reflects that.

I love Cate Blanchett and I have no interest in seeing this at all.

i have a lot of time for the film. i watched it yesterday and really enjoyed it and didn't really mind the relative plotlessness of the first half. yes, it's pretentious, but it's about art and it's an examination of a creative person at the top of her game; i found her musings on classical music, gender inclusivity, the 'cancellation' of older composers quite interesting.
but i think the relative loose threads of the second half of the book did feel somewhat unclear and unresolved - until i read a theory in slate magazine about the final third of the film, and then it opened up to me in a new way, in a way that i keep thinking about.
OK now this definitely takes things up a notch. A good read! Thank you for posting. It's here if anyone else wants to read it (massive spoilers, obviously)

It’s the Most Acclaimed Movie of the Year. So Why Are Critics Talking About It All Wrong?
Everyone is taking Tár at face value, but the final act suggests that nothing is as it seems.slate.com

It is. None of what is said in German is that important, it's mostly just instructions to the orchestra.is it mostly in English with bits of German or? I'm bringing a Spanish date to see it and if the subtitles are in Danish, well...
…so a DATE, huh?![]()
Also what a WILD CHOICE for a date film Mats![]()

I loved Call me by your name. It was the most hauntingly beautiful love story and stayed with me long after I’d left the cinema, gay or not. Loved TAR too, for different reasons .. I’m just glad that these movies existCall me by your name is as bland as they get. Two extremely good looking gays get it on in a beautiful villa. I’ll take a nuanced character piece like TAR over it any day. There’s more to gay stories than saccharine coming of age/coming out stories.
I took a date (well not really a date but kind of a date) to HOLY SPIDER the other day and it also worked.
