Hi lovers

I’m in Nagoya today to see the other bit of Ghibli park (well that’s tomorrow), and I was going to spend today with my friend, but Miss Rona had other plans for him.

So I went to a train museum and ended up spending 3 hours there :shock: it WAS fun though. I wonder how people get into train anorak-dom.

Although I left it too late to get to the castle so bugger knows what I’m going to do next

@Indie where in NZ are you? I was talking to my friend in Auckland last night and she was showing me some mad photos of the flooding!

Life in a hotel is not fun.

The kettle has a large spout and when pouring water I ended up soaking the GHDs which started buzzing and sparking and turned off our electric.

Then went down to possibly the worst buffet breakfast I have ever experienced.

Were you impressed by Za Za Bazaar? I think it's bloody hideous.

South Island, so well away from it - is nothing but warm and sunny here. Although I flew out of Auckland on Wednesday, so missed the rains by just two days.

Not having a great weekend, eh Rachey? :(

I spend about half my time with work in hotels and that can go either way really. Sometimes everything is nice and goes smoothly and sometimes you’re just happy it’s over.

I was impressed by the ridiculous amount of food upstairs! But only in a "this reminds me of a Royal Carribbean cruise" kind of way 😬

We've now had to come to Cribbs Causeway to get straighteners.

Yeah I can't say it's the best. I mean I love a modern hotel, but this one is ridiculous! I'm pleased I don't do this often.

Huge amount of choice, but largely bland as hell. And the noise and crowds :zombie:

I only ever go there when I'm with the children as you can please all of their requests there. But I resent every penny of the bill, and know I could have eaten far better for far less almost anywhere else.

Our plan was to go into Wales. But we had to get straighteners. And now the weather looks awful so we're stuck with what to do.

Is it expensive?

I'm not a fan of large scale buffets like that, there's never any taste to most of the food.

Didn't you eat there?

It's £21 on a Saturday, a bit cheaper during the week. So I guess it depends what you compare it to in terms of whether you consider it expensive or not. But I paid £23 for three courses I genuinely loved in a French restaurant yesterday. At Za Za I'd have spent two quid less on plates of tasteless crap, which you eat stupid amounts of - because you can, you've paid for it, and to convince yourself it's 'good value' despite not enjoying it. I'd genuinely prefer to go to McDonalds or KFC, and save the £10-15 to spend on something else.
 
According to their own website and Wikipedia, it's still the biggest restaurant in the country with capacity for over a thousand diners. Good grief.

We always stay in the same hotel in Stockholm on the strength of the breakfast spread; it’s just incredible :o
 
I've only stayed two places in Stockholm - Zinkensdamm youth hostel, and the Grand Hotel. Both had amazing breakfasts. I think that was the first time I had herring for breakfast and now it's the first thing I look for.

No we had no idea it was a buffet until we went up to use the toilets. We went in to the downstairs bar. It wasn't until we went to the toilet we realised what was going on.

I definitely won't be giving it a go based on your review.

The bacon wasn't cooked, the sausages were pink, the beans were basically all juice, the egg was like rubber, there were no glasses to get juice and no cutlery to eat the food with, no staff to ask, no clean tables.

I found a croissant to eat that already had jam in which was pleasant.

Oh and shocking coffee in paper cups.

I didn't realise you could go there just as a bar.

If you come again and fancy a buffet style restaurant, in my opinion Cosmo at Triangle West does it a lot better.

Yeah it's downstairs on the quay side. I did wonder why people were queueing in another part then realised it was for the restaurant.

We will be back next January for the next Roly's conference I'm sure.

We're heading into Wales now, hoping the weather improves 😬

Is it a recognised thing with new teachers? I know we see it often with new members of staff being sent into health centres. I can only imagine being sent into schools with all those horrid germ infested little shits is even worse.

Yeah, it's totally a thing. I just seem to have suffered more than most. Woe is me etc.
 
We're going for a Chinese with the in-laws and honestly neither of us can be ARSED. I'd rather just cook at home and count down until Happy Valley.

I went out today for Sunday lunch to a country pub and whilst paying for our meals there was about 10 men of all different ages having an in depth conversation about Happy Valley. It really seems to have crossed over.
 
I am just away to tuck in to one now to watch Call The Midwife.
